Dolly Parton performed “Jesus and Gravity” on American Idol last night and she looked incredible. That woman looks like she really takes care of herself. Sure, she’s probably had some nipping and tucking but there are plenty of celebs out there who go too far. She looks good to me. Her singing, however, wasn’t fabulous but I really do think that most celebs just tank on the Idol stage. Anyone else notice that?
Here’s her performance:

I love dolly and i really loved her new song , I’ve got Jesus and gravity .. I think we all need Jesus and gravity hope it makes a difference in peoples lifes…
Dolly was horrible last night! she use to be good, but her singing was painful to watch. the song was very cheesy and not a good performance. very dissapointing.
they should really call the country genre the christian genre. every song was about jesus!
I agree Jeanne, all the celebs never do that great on the Idol stage. It obviously wasn’t Dolly greatest performance, but she’s still got it. I just hope people don’t judge her based on that one performance because they’d be missing out on how incredible her talents really are.
Awesome song. I’m sure Idol will get flack for it.
i thought tht it was an awesome peformance although not her best but the song roxxx!!
I thought she was terrible – cringed through the whole “performance” – if you could even call it that!
I thought the new song was wonderful!!! She is so comfortable with who she is, what she represents, and has the most beautiful and sweetest smile! Wish she was my next door neighbor—I bet she’d be a great friend to have!
No, it was not good. The vocals seemed strained. She should have used a hand held microphone or even a used stand. Her gestures without the mic seemed awkward. It really felt like she had an agenda to push her values out there rather than entertain. I think some people will like a song about Jesus weather its a good song or not because it promotes their values. Jesus and Gravity? Just too corny. Here’s a much more poetic line from a rocker who is just too famous to ever do Idol: “I have finally found a way to live, in the presence of the Lord”. Now that is a lyric! Do you know who wrote it?
yeh i definitely think she was making a point of deliberating her words and speaking them out rather than just singing them as she does on the cd. But this is probably down to her personal conviction surrounding the song’s content. I think the performance was great and I can’t wait to see her live in concert in June. I’ve just written a post about her newest album and the performance of this song. Head over and check it out if you have time, but I don’t want to link and then look like a spammer!
oh, also, Jaime, the lyrics are by Eric Clapton I think!
As always, Dolly’s performance are so up-lifting. As for her outfit- WOW. I plan on having my wedding in Sept. of 2009 and her outfit would be perfect as my wedding attire. I wonder how I could order such a beautiful outfit. Any suggestions as to how I could inquire about purchasing it. I am sure her outfits are custom made.
Thanks,
Ivonne
