Caroline Tell, the Accessories Marketing Editor from WWD who recently interviewed Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen about their upcoming jewelry line, blogged about the experience at the WWD blog yesterday. She talks about how she had to interview the sisters separately and how their publicist asked her not to refer to them as “twins” or “sisters” in her article.
She also describes the different interviews–Ashley’s being very business-like and professional and Mary-Kate’s being more haphazard and frantic.
A lot of people are finding this request about not being called “twins” or “sisters” bizarre, but I can understand it. In the case with this Elizabeth & James jewelry line–and all their fashion lines, really–MK and Ash are business partners who happen to be sisters. And because they built a very different franchise on their sisterdom their entire lives (DualStar), they are in the unique situation that being sisters in business together is not just a happy coincidence as it is with other sibling designers, but actually a hindrance to the development of the brand.
But I could be wrong.
On a more sisterly note, MK and Ash were spotted buying art in NYC on Monday. I wonder who the piece is for or if they’ll hang it in their offices. I know MK has an extensive art collection, but am unsure about Ashley’s feelings towards it.
why would she say her interview with MK was “haphazard and frantic”? is it because she was in a rush to get to someplace or MK’s not really interested talking about business?

she was talking to mk while mk was driving in los angeles. and her interview with mk was a lot shorter..maybe that’s why.
Maybe MK was coming down off a crack high and needed to score some rocks quick. That would explain it perfectly.
I don’t know. They are kinda strange these days or seem to be not that I know them. I still support Mk as I’ve always had but I honestly think she’s on crack again. Not that she has never been off. I love them both to death you can’t imagine how much but there’s something strange and so many rumors about them ’splitting up’ must have a reason or something.
