Dudette Diary: Spencer Grammer

Spencer GrammerWhen Greek premiered on ABC Family in 2007, it featured a cast of relative unknowns and young actress with a very famous dad. That young actress was Spencer Grammer and her dad is Kelsey Grammer, known to all children on of the 80′s and 90′s simply as Frasier. Around that time a question loomed around Spencer: could her work on this one-hour college dramedy compete with her father’s Emmy-winning legacy enough to let her establish her own career? And could her last name help carry the new show?

Now in its third season, Greek is a certifiable hit for the small ABC network, and Spencer’s role as Casey Cartwright — a Type A sorority girl who yearns for more than Greek life with a revolving door of sweet and good-looking boyfriends — is one of the main reasons for its success. For someone whose only major credit pre-Greek was working on the soap As The World Turns, the leading role in this show is a huge coup for Spencer, and bound to lead to bigger things for the 26-year-old.

So with this successful show under her belt, what else does Spencer have in the works? Nada. Which, in our opinion, is a shame. But until casting directors start to get hip to her comedic timing and begin hiring her for romantic comedies or major network sitcoms, we’ll have to make do with Casey’s current dramz: her quest to get into law school and plans to break up with current boyfriend, layabout frat boy Cappie (played by Scott Michael Foster). We’ll also be looking for Spencer as her step-mom appears on the upcoming Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
