Duncan Roy Alleges Homophobia

Since Sex Rehab premiered on VH1, Dr. Drew and several of the patients on the show have been guests on the various talk shows to help promote the show. Most of us were unfamiliar with the concept of sex addiction before this show and the guest appearances got lots of attention to the problem.

One of the patients feels very left out of the talk show circuit, though. Openly gay film producer/director Duncan Roy says that he hasn’t been invited on the shows because he is gay. He’s had a lot to say about his exclusion in his personal blog:

“How do I feel about being excluded from Oprah’s Sex Rehab special? You may well ask dear blog readers. I feel PISSED OFF! The producer are [sic] blatantly, rampantly homophobic. The producer’s excuse? They didn’t want to confuse the issue of sex addiction with a gay story. F*** YOU OPRAH!”

“Mostly, though, I am seething about the media’s approach to anything gay. Our stories are never integrated hence we are never integrated.”

Personally, Duncan is my favorite person on the series because he seems like such a genuine person. His story has touched me and made me tear up more than anyone’s so far…and each of these patients has a very sad story. I would hope that the days of excluding anyone because of sexual orientation are over, but we all know that such things still happen. It would seem that Duncan should at least be able to land a guest gig on the Ellen show.

Aside from the claims, I hope it’s just not true. But Duncan remains the person that I am pulling for the most in the Sex Rehab season so far. I hope he is able to get past the resentment and make the changes he is trying to make. He deserves to finally be happy, as do all of the patients featured on the show.
