Three people that Dancing With the Stars fans will recognize were guests at a huge star-studded birthday bash yesterday for hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. DWTS pro dancer Derek Hough was there and so were former DWTS star dancers Shannon Elizabeth & Kim Kardashian. This makes me wonder how they know the birthday boy. But I’m sure they all had a great time.

I doubt either Shannon or Derek knows Diddy. Shannon got invited only a couple of days before because her friend Lori Levine, a NY talent and booking agent, worked on the party and could get her in. And Derek happened to be in NY to do The View after being eliminated from DWTS, so he was available to attend. He bought a suit that afternoon and went to the party that night. Pretty ironic that last-minute additions got featured more in the wire photos and interviews than actual friends of Diddy’s like Lil Kim, who also performed.

It’s one of the great mysteries of life how this show is still popular at this stage. Escapism, maybe? The flamboyant “judges”?
