E! covered the fab news that Hilary Duff was cast for a guest arc (that means multiple episodes) on CW’s hit series Gossip Girl.
Hilary Duff will play Olivia Burke on Gossip Girl, a movie star who enrols at NYU in order to have a ‘traditional college experience.’ She’ll room with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr), and will start dating Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley)!
Hilary Duff’s first appearance on the series will be in the fourth episode, slated to air on October 5, 2009.

I thought Hilary’s last two guest star roles were very entertaining. This is an interesting pick for her IMHO. Here’s why:
Many magazine articles have stated that Hilary and her management have a distinct procedure when it comes to deciding on roles. She apparently waits until something she likes comes up (usually more mature roles…she is done with the teen/pop star roles she used to do). Anything she deems boring, too young, pigeon-holey, etc. she passes on. She was suppose to be in a show this upcoming season with NBC, but it looks like they passed on her pilot (if she even filmed one). She recently stated in a magazine (Maxim I think?) that she will continue to take independent film roles that she gets paid nothing for if that’s what is necessary to get directors to take her acting seriously.
My theory (just that, a theory) is that she is taking this role to get attention from casting directors, especially since her TV plan didn’t take off. While GG has poor ratings, there is no denying the buzz it receives. She can get back into the spotlight again, as well. Not that her bank is hurting, but I bet the pay is pretty decent. Plus, the role is not that outlandish…she is college age. If she feels that it’s too young or something, she shouldn’t because the character is about the age she should be playing.
Just my idea…hope that wasn’t too long or out there for anyone who read it.
