Ellen Pompeo dropped by Children’s Hospital Boston yesterday, alongside her husband Chris Ivery. She was naturally pressed about the rumors surrounding the upcoming Grey’s Anatomy wedding. Although, they’re not so much rumors anymore, since Shonda Rhimes herself confirmed it. Sort of. Well, in a cryptic sort of way.
Pompeo didn’t let anything slip, though, besides the usual. But I suppose we can dissect that little nugget of info through the magnifying glass of obsessive-compulsive speculation and fan-geekiness.

“There’s a wedding … There’s a setting that’s a wedding, that’s all I can say. I can’t say who gets married. We’re still working on the episode.”
A setting that’s a wedding. Perhaps the setting of what is meant to be MerDer’s wedding but then suddenly becomes … someone else’s wedding?
Somewhere, sitting on her throne in Shondaland Palace, Shonda Rhimes is cackling madly at our head-scratching and confusion. She’s also likely holding a rifle, waiting for the first signs of spoiler leakage.
Ah well.
I’ll leave you with another quote from Ellen Pompeo, regarding her appreciation for the show’s continued success:

i love to see merder’s working out as a normal couple..they deserve to give a shot to their relationship! bailey and george are awesome!!!!
Maybe the whole show is going to fast forward a year and it really will me merder’s wedding and we’ll know whether Izzy makes it a year or not like she asked Bailey. Just my opinion.
Omg good thought “sara.” but I’m not sure if Shonda would make it fast foward, but i really like that idea. I want it to be merder’s wedding SO badly, but if not theirs, I think it will be Izzy and Alex, b/c like (if it isn’t fast foward) Izzy and Alex might feel like they don’t have a lot time, in case Izzy dies (god forbidd, I love her character), and so meredith and derek will be like you guys can get married!!!!! additionally, I can’t think of any other couples who would be at the “getting married” stage.
I could see lexi and mark getting married. If they won’t fast forward in time its really hard for me to believe that mer der are about to get married and decide to have someone else get married. I don’t know. I can’t believe we have to wait. Or maybe christina and owen get married before he heads off again. I don’t really like that idea but its 1 of the many floating around in my head
