Emily Kuroda will be working in a new play for Kenneth Cavander’s translation of Euripides’ "The Trojan Women". Emily Kuroda headlines the play as "Hecuba." The play will run August 4-26.
"A big part of what Lodestone is about is to give our artists an opportunity to do the type of work they may not be able to do elsewhere," says Co-Artistic Director Philip W. Chung, also an AsianWeek columnist. "Where else would Asian Pacific American actors be allowed to play all the parts in a Greek tragedy written twenty-four centuries ago?"
The Trojan Women focuses on the women of Troy as they await their grim fate, after their city has been destroyed by war and their men have been killed by battle. Scholar Edith Hamilton considered Euripides’ work "the greatest piece of anti-war literature there is in the world."
Veteran theater director Alberto Isaac, who helms this production, chose the play because of its relevance to our current history.
"A play like The Trojan Women still has something to say to our modern society living in a time of war," Isaac said. "It’s a play that maybe, in some small way, can still have an impact on a contemporary audience grappling with these similar issues."

I don’t remember seeing Mrs. Kim’s husband in Gilmore Girls. Lane mentioned her father though.
I Miss Mrs. Kim. BRING MY FAVORITE SHOW BACK! WE NEVER SAW MRS. KIMS HUSBAND SINCE SEASON 1!
I miss all the characters on Gilmore Girls including Emily Kuroda. Congratulations on being in The Trojan Women!!! Wish I could see the play. I’m living in Kansas not Burbank, California.
Ms. Kuroda is never without work – it is her craft and she is excellent. Wish I could see the play.
She should better come back to GG. Mrs. Kim is the best. GG should go on forever (or at least go on until season 13). It’s the best show ever and I miss all the characters soooooooooooooooooooooooo much.
teresa, it is in Burbank, CA. Nothing beats Greek plays. If I was anywhere nearby, I’d definitely catch it, but it isn’t so I won’t. :-|
