Like that’s any surprise to us, right?
Empire Magazine released their 100 Sexiest Movie Stars. Topping the list, no shock here, is Angelina Jolie as the sexiest movie star. Empire says this about her:
Jolie seems to have been precision built to turn cinema audiences into drooling wrecks. The pneumatic figure, the feline eyes, the lips that could have been stung by several hives of bees. Simply unimprovable.
They went on to say that her sexiest moment (onscreen) was:
Beating the hell out of Brad Pitt in Mr and Mrs Smith and then banging the hell out of him by way of apology.
Meanwhile, Brad Pitt came in as number 7 on the list of sexiest movie stars. While I’d be more inclined to bump him up to number 2, this is what Empire said:
So empirically good-looking that you’d have to hate him if he wasn’t clearly such a nice guy with it. The eyes, the smile, the rippling six-pack despite being the wrong side of 40 – he’s the man men dream of being and women dream their man could be.
I know that the “wrong side of 40″ is said tongue in cheek, but the fact of the matter is that in Hollywood, age 40 IS often considered “old” and with new hot stars constantly getting the spotlight, it’s easy to forget that someone is sexy, so in that case, for Brad to be this high on the list is pretty darn good for Hollywood. (Plus he was mostly beaten out by women; the two men who ranked higher were Daniel Craig at #3 and Johnny Depp at #5. While Daniel Craig does nothing for me personally, I can at least accept Johnny Depp because damn he’s hot too.)
Anyway, Empire declared this to be Brad’s sexiest onscreen moment:
Disrobing for his first punch up as the puckish Tyler Durden in Fight Club.
Brad Pitt disrobing? Yes, that works!
Ha!

Showbiz Tonight has a segment tonight, Friday, 12/14/07, on “transformations” good & bad – looking at Brad, Ben Affleck & Britney. Angelina would have been a good one too.

Here’s something the few odd ducks here will like (I think they’re only half right – both Angie & Brad should have been nominated):
Nominating the Wrong Half of Brangelina
By FilmStew Staff
Having Angelina Jolie as your mate certainly has its perks, but being equally noticed during 2007 awards season is apparently not one of them.

OTOH, Filmstew’s dvd reviewer liked AMH & loved Angie’s performance. It’s very well-written, and reading it was almost the same as watching it again (I’m going to watch the dvd one more time). I can think of 4 moments of poignancy. Which moments were the most moving for you?
Updated figures:
Domestic: $9,176,787 49.0%
+ Foreign: $9,556,086 51.0%
________________________________________
= Worldwide: $18,732,873
+ $22.48 Million dvd rentals = $41,212,873 -$16 Million production budget = $25.2 Million profit

Fire Walk with Angelina
You’ll read a lot of reviews about Angelina’s prematurely released Oscar hopeful. But we bet this is the only write-up that connects it back to David Lynch.

A Mighty Heart is powered, though, by Jolie’s performance, and her portrayal of Mariane is one of mesmerizingly tightened effect and distress – her very soul seems clenched. Two big emotional moments leapt out for me,..
Mariane is asked if there is anything she would say to her husband if he could now hear her. The answer in and of itself is brief and obvious (“I love you”), but the sing-song, knee-jerk reflexivity of Jolie’s line-reading is heartrending, and a reminder that sometimes the most obvious sentiment is still the most poignant..
Having danced along the razor’s edge of doubt, hope and steadfastness for its entire running time, the declaration feels emotionally devastating. But it’s also moving in a genuine way, one tinged with discernment, and the compassion of tact — qualities that, if more greatly understood and embraced, could surely fuel more thoughtful, sympathetic worldviews.
