"Everybody loves a hero"

The idea that somebody is going to rise among us, somebody like you or me, somebody who will be able to actually do something about these problems, is very appealing, I think. I’ve been fortunate enough to tap into that.”

– Tim Kring, creator and executive producer of Heroes

We all dream of being a hero to someone, of having some power to change lives and make things better. And then, what if it actually happens?!

But because we’re asking people to invest in these characters, I see it as being much more of a character-based show than straight action. I’ve posited that it could be you or me or anybody that these things happen to. It’s very much about free will,” the Star Phoenix quoted Tim Kring.

That’s the appeal that NBC’s Heroes got. To be a frail and ordinary human being yesterday and wake up to superhuman powers the next, you just have to grapple with your new identity, its source, its purpose, your destiny. And then to deal with a catastrophic event in the near future… scared, angsty, overwhelmed, excited, confused, angry.

That’s exactly what anyone in this planet will feel should this happen in real life to any of us… Unless you’re a Hiro-type character, who totally embraced this new-found destiny that’s his namesake, then you’re going to have the ‘absolutestly’ best time.
