Exclusive Interview With Heather Kuzmich of America’s Next Top Model

Heather and Nigel on America's Next Top Model

Today I was lucky enough to chat briefly with Heather Kuzmich who was eliminated from America’s Next Top Model last night.  She was SO nice!  Check back later tonight for a written recap of her interview with me and some of the questions asked by other reporters who were also in on the conference call.  Also she said in the interview that she plans on reading all the comments so feel free to write comments here and maybe she’ll read it and answer you!

Honestly, my family loves Heather. My son, Ryan, has Aspergers and he watched the show because of Heather. He said that if she can do it, then he can too. Since then, he’s tried to overcome his panic attacks and fears so he can do more. She was such an inspiration for him and I can’t thank her enough. She may not know it yet, but I’m sure there are lots of little boys and girls out there that look up to her now.

    Heather:
You were robbed as you are by far the best of all the girls including Tyra! Find Victor Skrebneski in Chicago; he will turn you into an even bigger star.

WHAAAATTTTT! This has to be a joke!!! Heather was cut? I can’t believe it… She deserves to be there, she deserves to wiiiinnnnnnnnn!!!! I thought that she would be America’s Next Top Model, she deserves it more than Bianca… It was so cool to see her and her photos because they are amazing… But now I guess that the last three girls will be: CHANTAL, JENAH AND SALEISHA, and if I have to pick one, I would say JENAH… Why? Because her photos are absolutely great and very strong, just look at this: http://cwtv.com/thecw/gen-gallery-antm09-models/7/6, it’s my favorite… Thank u for reading me… Peace from MEXICOOOO!!!

    Heather –
I’ve watched every episode of every season of Model, but you are by far my favorite contestant ever. You are incredibly beautiful and incredibly real. Take pride in being yourself and please never sacrifice that! You are an inspiration and role model to so many people.
Like many others, I am wondering if there is an email address or somewhere we can send personal fanmail to? I could write to you for ages about my thoughts!

    In Peace,
    Carolyn

Heather was too good for ANTM. they only kicked you off becuz of the producers

My daughter, Chanelle, is also an Aspy, with Asperger’s Syndrome. I believe she inherited it from me. We are working on a diagnosis at this time. Heather, if you do read this, I want you to know that there are other girls out there just like you, and I know the struggle you go through, but you are doing wonderful in spite of it. :)

I Wish Heather could have stayed in the competiton. I think Bianca was being very uncalled for. Good thing she got eliminated. But, whatever. My second choice now is Saleisha.

  8. By Laura

Being beautiful doesn’t earn you special attention, especially on ANTM! She got special attention for her disorder. Well my SON has autism and I’m sorry Heather, but you insulted him in your lack of knowledge about the disoder.

  9. By Cara

Sarah… Of course no one is going to hold her hand as a professional model, but when you have a disability, you have to figure out strategies to approach those tasks which you find challenging. But that takes time and experience. In the real world, you have that chance (you may not believe that, but I know it’s true from experience). On ANTM, Heather didn’t get that chance. If Heather decides she wants to model, she is definitely bright enough to come up with strategies for future situations.

if she reallly wants to model no one is going to go easy on and hold her hand she will be alone most of the time and look at how she was during the go see challenge

Heather received special attention because she is amazingly beautiful. She will go much further than that loser competition. She was too good for them.
They all have a vicious mind set like you. That competition has nothing to do with modelling. Just a torture of young women so Tyra can retire well.

  12. By Jill

i am glad she got eliminated. she got too much special attention. everybody only liked her because she had a disability but that competition is not for someone who needs to have their hand held

    Dear Heather,
(sorry that my English is POOR:[)
I’m just a student from Hong Kong All of my friends thought that you would be the winner, and I was very upset when you were eliminated!!!
You are so nice, so beautiful, even cute (HUH?)
You are also the most special one in the ANTM!

By the way, I don’t play computer games but I really want to know more about you . I’m really look forward if I could have the opportunity to talk with you through computer(I mean e-mail, even MSN, HAHA)!!!

Lastly, good luck! I hope that I can see your new photos in magazines soon!!!

Yo Heather what’s up homegirl this is Rosie in NYC who like you have the same exact condition as you do only i am a couple of years older about 29 and a half years old to be exact. I also have depression and general anxiety disorder also and a touch of adhd thrown in the mix. I loved you from the start and when I hear you got the boot. I fell off my couch and cried and cursed (pardon my language f*** you) not at Tyra. Tyra loved you and I love you and my friend Victoria loved ya too. Keeo on smiling you. We love you homegirl. Love and Peace Rosie Happy Holidays.

    Dear Heather,

Like many of the others here, I am rarely moved to leave comments on sites like these. But I truly believe that you should have won the competition. Having said that, it would appear that fate has other plans… dare I say, bigger plans for you. You are an inspiration.

I identified a lot with Mercedes in cycle 2 because she has Lupus and I have Lupus, and I remember how much hope it gave me to see her capable of working for her dream. I didn’t expect to have a similar reaction to somebody with a different disability than mine, but I think that’s just the effect you have on people… you give them hope. (Plus you were easily the most beautiful girl there, capable of both commercial and high fashion, and I think the judges must have lost their minds.)

Good luck in the future. I hope we’ll be seeing your face in magazines soon!

    Dear Heather,
We love you, and you are beautiful both inside and outside. You know not only Americans, people in Asia who have access to the show fall in love with you, you are a role model indeed. I hope you can appear on Ellen’s show or Oprah’s, i love both of them.

  18. By ILynn

Heather, you completely rock my world. You were my favorite to win, and now I have little reason to continue watching. I probably will check in on the finale though.

If you will answer any questions, could you answer this one: A lot of people feel that at certain points in the competition, you were given special treatment and an unfair advantage. Would you agree and do you think that’s appropriate?

I personally thought you rocked the competition in a way that people didn’t expect, so they had to make reasons for your surprising success. I hope you find happiness in whatever you do!!

  19. By Cindy

    hi heather,
you are such a great inspiration!
    love you loads!:)

Thank you, Heather. Thank you for showing the world that we Aspies are not what the psychologists say we are – narrow, blank, suffering from “extreme male brain,” and lacking in empathy. You’ve given the world a taste the unique gifts we have to offer, and beautifully demonstrated that just because we experience the world differently does NOT mean that we are inferior, or that we need to be fixed, or that we need to be anything other than what we are. The gifts your Asperger’s brings you – hyperfocus, intensity, tremendous sensitivity, the capacity to dream, and a unique way of experiencing the world, are precisely what make you such an extraordinary model. Again, thank you so very, very much. Hopefully you’ll shut idiots like Simon Baron-Cohen up for good!
