Broadway is 'dark' on Mondays. Off-Broadway is dark on Wednesdays. I do wonder where the story came from about Fantasia. I first read it in the New York Post about a week ago. That she is NO longer with the show- even though her contract was supposed to run to the 2nd week of Jan. It also said that 'she wrecked havoc with ticket sales and fans were very upset with her missing almost 50 performances during the summer and early spring'. Why would anyone make that up???? Fantasia received such incredible reviews that her contract was extended 4 months. So..is she or isn't she (still in the show???). Per 'jean'- I don't think she 'didn't have the stamina' as she had done a year of 8 shows a week before these 'rumors' came to light. I do wish Clay Aiken the best with his upcoming Broadway run-I will be in first row March 20th! Clay has incredible energy and I think he will be incredible. I just hope his spring allergies are kept in check--maybe weekly shots will help!!! Clay is going to surprise so many people (not his fans, though-we already know) with his comedic timing and incredible wit---I even heard his 'British Accent' is perfection!!!!

Usually a Broadway show does 6 nights and 2 matinees. They have 1 night off for a life.

It can be very taxing, but the star does not usually take much time off since they are the draw. I think Fantasia could have not yet developed the stamina as a theater performer. She was a chir and night club singer before AI and afterwards she mostly opened for other singers and did not have lengthy or frequent concerts.

Diana, on the other hand had toured as the entire act when she was 12 and had the stamina to perform. She also did not have the starring role - that makes a difference in 2 ways. 1) probably not as many people are coming just to see her and 2) her role was not as physically demanding.
Tamyra is also appearing on Broadway but not in the starring role.

The issue here is that the theater has to refund money when the star is absent. I do not hold this against Fantasia as she has really helped that show get into the black when it was struggling. I think her contract should have been more specific about performances she was to miss. Currently she is contracted to miss one matinee a week, but is generally missing two shows a week.
