Faye Dunaway Slams Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff recently signed on for The Story of Bonnie & Clyde, a remake of the 1967 film starring Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty. The 1967 film, and the new remake, both focused on the real lives of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, small-time criminals who escalate to violent bank robbers.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Faye Dunaway, who played the title role of Bonnie Parker in the original film, is not happy that Hilary Duff has been cast as Bonnie in this new film. Indeed, she is reported to have said:

”Couldn’t they at least cast a real actress?”

Ouch! So mean! And I think that calling the film a “remake” may be confusing things here. According to various sources, the new Cypress Moon Productions film, written and directed by Tonya S Holly, will have a different focus than the original film. The Story of Bonnie and Clyde will focus on less on the fictionalized shoot-ups and more on the lives of Bonnie Parker & Clyde Barrow.

Kevin Zegers & Hilary Duff co-star in ‘The Story of Bonnie & Clyde’

The new movie was not inspired by the film but by real news clippings about Bonnie & Clyde. The clippings were found by writer Tonya S. Holly in an abandoned house on her family’s property. Tonya S. Holly has created a new script of her own vs. remaking the original screenplay, according to Variety. As MTV points out, the real Bonnie Parker wasn’t necessarily the gun-slinger the 1967 film portrayed her to be – she may have never even fired a gun! As a former honors student who simply went down the wrong path, I think Hilary Duff is perfect for the role.

It’s also been confirmed that the movie will be filmed in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Natalie Canerday and Rance Howard have also been cast.

The only goody-two-shoes image Hilary has maintained has primarily been associated with her Lizzie and A Cinderella Story roles. She has been acting professionally since her pre-teen years, so any complaints about her not being an actress aren’t founded in reality. She is, however, much more well known world-wide for her music career, of course, no matter how many acting roles she tackles. Her music with her band and production outfit has pretty well usurped any of her other ventures globally and passed many barriers, no matter how one tends to square it. But, still, those comments are unfounded, especially from an experienced actress like Faye Dunaway.

I agree with what Caitlyn said. Hilary has to prove that she has the acting chops for these serious roles before people can take her seriously. Everyone still sees her as the goodie two shoes that has done all these movies for tweens.

Hopefully she can prove people wrong and she’ll start to get some respect eventually.

i bet the only reason she said that is because she knows hilary is a great actress and shes afraid that hilary will be ten times better than her

I think hilary should be given a go to actually make the movie before being criticized for it.. She could turn out to be better than Faye.. Like was stated, it doesnt sound to be a remake anyway, its a different version of the story, focusing of a different aspect of the pair. Well done Hilary..

I can get why she said it, because the majority of people see Hilary still as Lizzie McGuire, the public tends to put terrible child actresses into real roles, if you don’t follow Hil closely, you might think she’s just another one of them.
But I think once she proves that she CAN handle this role, she’s owed abig apology.
