Fisher Stevens To Play Betty’s New Landlord!

70523c1_stevens_f_b_gr_02 This is double-interesting news.  According to EW’s Ausiello, Fisher Stevens will join the cast of Ugly Betty in a possibly recurring role as Betty’s new landlord.

You’ll recognize Stevens right away, because he always plays “that creepy guy”.  I remember a recurring role on CSI NY where Stevens was spectacular.  Then, of course, there’s the role he played on Lost (George Minkoski)

On Betty, he will play Mr. Z., a dry and sarcastic landlord.  When they cast the role, they were looking for a "New York actor who could go head-to-head with America Ferrera."

Personally, I love Stevens, and I think I’ll love what he brings to the show.

One thing we know his character will bring to the show is the fact that Betty will move back out of the house again.  We know this because Stevens cannot be the Suarezes landlord, because they bought their house last season.

I wonder, though, is this the apartment Amanda is living in (which supposedly Betty still leases), or will they get Betty another one? (I think she should get her own place in Queens).

The whole “Betty moves back home” story line, I think was a mistake – especially since Ignacio was better and fooling around with his nurse a few episodes later.  I also believe that the production crew and writers did not all agree that this should happen.

Regardless, if Betty is going to get a new landlord, I can’t think of a better actor to play him than Fisher Stevens!

My first thought was the obvious, that Betty would be moving out again, which I am all for, but I thought that it might also be possible that Betty could be scouting out a new apartment for Daniel, to get him out of Molly’s place, with all its memories. I hope that the person doing the moving is Betty, though. We saw just as much of her family when she was living in Manhattan as when she was still with them in Queens, so I don’t think that screen time for the Suarezes is really an issue.

I disagree. I think Betty going back home after Ignacios heart attack was good because we got to see more of the Suarez Family. I have always loved having her at home. While I think it was good for Betty to live on her own and experience that, I always felt like she belonged at home with her family

I am certainly not against the scenes in which Betty is with her family, but I don’t think that we necessarily saw more of them when she was living at home. I admit that I have never counted the Queens scenes or used a stopwatch to calculate the screen time for those scenes, but I would be willing to wager that there was no difference (or not much of one) between when Betty was living in Queens and when she was living in her Manhattan apartment. When Betty wasn’t visiting Queens, her family members were visiting her at her apartment. The Suarezes’ neighborhood in Queens is not far from Manhattan, and in the world of TV, it takes no time whatsoever for characters to get from one to the other.

I agree completely with what Anna says. I personally am very close to my family and couldn’t image ever leaving them. I think that shows a strength and not a weakness since you love your family so much that you want to be close to them. Also, for minorities, like Betty and me, families are especially close. Also, Betty was putting her needs first for a long time and wasn’t supporting her family very much in the episodes prior to the episode where she moved back home. I think she was right in feeling a bit guilty and she probably moved back in so that she could be more supportive. I think that this was admirable of her. In addition, Betty wasn’t financially ready to own an apartment since she was always saying how she couldn’t meet the payments for her bills. With her new independent spirit and the extra money that she’s making because of her promotion, I think that she will be in a better position to get an apartment. However, I still like her at home. :)

I’m just afraid of the repetition of this story line since it was already done. I hope that it is done in a different way.

how about she is staying home to save up $$ to own a little pad?

I didn’t like the story that she moved back, i’d rather that she was trying to, but then the heartattck stopped it. Yes please, no repeat of plots!
