Ten years ago, TLC released their song “No Scrubs” and it quickly became a huge summer hit. The single, which was was nominated for “Record of the Year” at the 2000 Grammy Awards, was from their album FanMail which contained some other memorable tracks including “Unpretty.” It was a great follow up to their
debut album Ooooooohhh…On the TLC Tip and their sophomore effort (my favorite) CrazySexyCool.
The song was great since, along with the Destiny’s Child single “Bills, Bills, Bills”, it seemed to send a message that women were no longer willing to support any men in their lives who were just trying to use them for money. Of course, there was some backlash with the most comical being the song “No Pigeons” which was released by Sporty Thievz.
The group, made up of Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas, worked in just one more album, 3D, before tragedy struck. Lopes was killed in a car accident in Honduras before it was even released.
I prefer to focus on their music since the reality makes me so sad. Enjoy “No Scrubs” and have a great weekend!
