Fox looking to pick up Idol for three extra years

Despite the near-constant buzz that Simon Cowell may leave American Idol, Fox doesn’t appear to be too concerned by their high-profile judge’s possible departure.

Although Fox currently has a contract with Idol until 2011, they’re allegedly in the process of working on a deal that would see the network picking up an additional three years to keep Idol on the air. They seem to be very gung-ho about sticking with the sentiment of “the show must go on” with or without Simon.

I still have trouble being able to imagine Idol without Simon Cowell just because he’s my favorite judge, but in the end I tune in to see the performances and to cheer on whichever contestant is my favorite. I love the judges’ comments but that’s not what makes or breaks it for me. Strange as it will be without Simon if he doesn’t renew his contract, I’ll definitely still tune in if Fox adds another three years to American Idol!
