Frenchie Davis, who was eliminated from American Idol in 2003 for being on an adult website when she was 19, will be having surgery to remove a vocal cord polyp. Yikes! Frenchie, who went on to star in “Rent” on Broadway, says that the condition likely came from overuse and singing improperly.
“I’ve talked to other singers who had surgery. One girl said her voice went up. Others’ voices got clearer. I’m just excited to see and a little nervous, of course. It’s still surgery,” Davis told The Associated Press. “I was doing eight shows a week of `Rent’ for four years. When I had a break from `Rent,’ I was using it to sing elsewhere,” she said. “Now I need a vocal coach to make sure I’m singing properly so it doesn’t come back.”
Wow. I know she must be nervous especially since the surgery is sometime next month and she needs enough time to recover to star alongside Ruben Studdard in “Ain’t Misbehavin’” this fall.
Get well soon and good luck, Frenchie!
