The Real World's first (and last) HIV-positive star, Pedro went on the show not for fame or money, but to better publicize the problems with the health system in the '90s. He pushed for sex education that would protect young gay men where he had not been. Plus, he knew how to stand up for himself: He told the producers he wanted to explore a relationship with Sean Sasser, and they let him. And in an eerie bit of timing, he passed away due to complications related to AIDS in 1994, hours after MTV aired the season finale of The Real World: San Francisco.

You'll notice that a lot of people on this list are the reality stars who help other people. And even though you may not have known her actual name, you'll recognize Supernanny for her stern British demeanor and the fact that she doesn't take shit from any bratty kids.

While his reality series Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution alienated many of the overweight Americans he sought to help, it inspired many others to start eating more healthily and exercise. He's always been one of the more engaging celebrity chefs; he deserves some attention for being willing to step out of the kitchen and confront people who don't like him.

I knew I'd have to include some sort of mentor figure on a makeover/fashion show, who can support the contestants but still make snarky remarks, and who has a life outside of said show.

This woman deserves more than a star -- she deserves a medal for all the idiots she deals with on a daily basis. She may be gruff, but we love her for Judyisms such as "You mess around with me, young lady, I wipe the floor with you. We follow each other?"
