Yesterday’s GH finally showed a push to Robin’s post-partum depression storyline. Of course we knew this was coming all along. The arrow pointed to that direction the minute Robin pushed Baby Emma out. How did we know this? Because the writers think Robin can overcome anything. Not only is she HIV positive, she had to be shot during the Metro Court hostage crisis which eventually lead to an impromptu surgery headed by 1-year “flanked out of Med School” Carly, Emily and Nurse Liz. And then, just when you thought life has finally settled down, she went into labor on her wedding day. Then after delivering her baby, she passed out and was out cold for a day or so. What else could Guza possibly throw at Robin? Well, PPD of course.
Patrick found her on the floor crying. She whined about being fat and staying that way for the rest of her life. Like seriously? Robin, fat? Even when she was pregnant most average women who’s had a baby are still bigger than her. Give me a break. If GH wants us to feel crappy with our own weight, then they’ve succeeded. I know I know, Robin is just reacting the way any women who just had a baby would. I get it but I’d comprehend even more it if Robin doesn’t look like she has a 12 yr old body.
Ok, so while watching her whine about it, and Patrick suggests seeing someone about her condition, something else came to me.
Robin just had a wedding. She just had to wear a wedding dress. Most brides actually freak out about not fitting into their wedding dress. If Robin feels fat, wouldn’t it have made sense if her PPD kicked in right before she had to put on the dress? I had minor symptoms of PPD after my 2 children but that’s about the scope of what I know of it. I just think if Robin is going to cry about her weight, not feeling sexy, and in fear of being fat for the rest of her life, the time she could’ve experienced this full blown was when she was putting on a dress on her wedding day. That would make sense in my head. How about yours?
I understand that they probably wanted to make the wedding romantic without any whines and complains from Robin like she usually does about everything else but if the writers are going to write about it, at least make it authentic and believable.
With the hospital crisis coming up, we’ll either see Robin’s PPD coming out again or it has come and gone and it’s just another thing she has to experience in life.
Aren’t you glad your life is not a soap opera? Whewww!

I thought Carly flunked out of nursing school.
Well, since the writers want to be topical I can see why they want Robin to have PPD. It doesn’t help that she’s a control freak by nature as well. I think it would have been more interesting if Carly had been able to stay pregnant, get pampered for 9 months by Jax, everything completely happy in her life. The have the baby, a beautiful blonde hair, blue eyed girl. And then she got PPD. That would have been so much more interesting. She could be flipping out at Sonny one moment for ignoring the boys, then they show a scene where she’s in bed and the baby’s crying and she won’t even get up, so Michael has to bring her the baby. It would have played well, since she had a similar reaction when she had Michael.
BTW, I thought it was great that Sonny & Carly went to see Michael and they showed him to be Dylan Cash. Maybe when they wake him up, it will still be Dylan.
was it Nursing school? sorry, my mistake
btw, Carly is going to be the one helping Robin in this mess. spoilers alert, ooops. but yes, irony of all irony
Freaking awesome. Carly needs more “girlfriends”. She said yesterday that she didn’t have a lot of them.
Stephanie, Carly does need more girlfriends. She pretty much has no female friends except for Olivia now.
I’m acually over this PPD storyline, but when the crisis happens at the hospital Robin’s gonna have a problem.
Alyssa, you’d be surprised what shakes a mom out of PPD. For me it took the stark realization that if I didn’t start taking care of my son, I wouldn’t get to keep him. My husband loves me, but he would have kicked me out and gotten a nanny or something before he let me harm our son. Six years later, I’m a freaking great mom. I still have some things I hate doing, but I take care of my boys and won’t let anything harm them, including myself.
I am a mom suffering with PPD and am very glad to see it on mainstream tv. Your somewhat ridiculous remarks about feeling fat or what may trigger it is why many mothers suffer in silence as I have for a year and a half. This is a real illness and it needs to be brought out in the light even if it is on a soap.
JNAmama, have you seen the show at all? I suggest you do, but search old episodes of this storyline on ABC.com. Then maybe you’ll understand why loyal fans of the show feel insulted of how they’ve made a mockery of the PPD storyline.
And btw, this isn’t the only time the show has featured PPD storyline. They’ve done it with another character and they’ve done it successfully.
Like I said, you have to be a loyal watcher of this Soap to fully get the scope of why this storyline is pissing people off.
You are right I do not watch the show anymore but my MIL brought it to my attention and she now has a better understanding of what I am going through because of it. As does the rest of the family. The storyline will be as it may but this is a soap opera and not true so anyone should expect that it will have some liberties but it is being used as a forum to open up disscussions and bring to the forefront a serious condition and that is appreciated in any form.
I intend to watch the show but I did take a look at some clips . PPD is a serious condition not to be taken lightly and although almost all soaps are not necessarily true to actuality PPD is a condition that is expected to be “snapped out of” and women feel alone and ashamed. Showing it on such a popular show will at the very least bring an understanding to and may comfort one new mom to know that it is ok and she is not alone and there are resources out there for her. I commend GH and Kimberly McCullough for this and their PSA regarding it.
JNAmama, trust me I understand your sentiments about the PPD which is why I (and other fans) are somewhat angry at how the show has portrayed the storyline. And that PSA that Kimberly did was shown just when the story was wrapping up.
Then again, we’re just loyal fans who watch this show everyday and even if we’re subjected to ridiculousness on a daily basis, we’re still here pulling and hoping that next time they write about an issue, PPD etc, they’ll get it right.
