By now I’m fairly certain that anyone that keeps up with Grey’s Anatomy news between and during seasons is aware that T.R. Knight has officially left the show.
We knew, too, that Shonda Rhimes stated around the time of the announcement that she really wanted T.R. Knight to come back to film an episode of season six, but that Knight declined the offer. This left us wondering what exactly Rhimes might’ve wanted to film and whether it meant that George had a chance of survival, or not.
Well we now know for certain exactly why Shonda Rhimes wanted T.R. Knight back and what we won’t get to see.
I’m going to put the next part after the cut, and also warn anyone seeing this page directly that there are spoilers and would-be spoilers ahead so please stop reading if you don’t want to know anything for certain regarding George.

By now it’s probably no secret to most of us that George is dead. But for those holding out hope, there’s now confirmation that he does indeed die and does not instead survive and get tranferred to another hospital indefinitely, or get taken over by a different actor altogether, or anything of the sort.
The reason why Shonda Rhimes wanted T.R. Knight back is because she wanted to shoot an episode that took us back to the last day of George’s life, so we could see what happened in his day, so we could watch his decision to save the girl’s life at the risk of his own, all the while knowing exactly what would happen. “I wanted to see his last day [alive] really badly,” [Shonda Rhimes] says. “What I thought was interesting was the idea of, we now know it’s the last day of someone’s life, [so we’re] looking at it differently than [we] would any other time.”
She says that she “kind of” gets why T.R. Knight decided not to return to the show, but she’s disappointed that she won’t get to show this episode and feels the fans would’ve really appreciated the closure.
I admit I’m disappointed as well, as I think that the episode sounds like it would’ve been a beautiful tribute to the character.

I do think that T.R Knight should make an appearance. He has to do it for Grey Anatomy fans or at least George’s fans..
we need an explanation, and I do think that the character need to be given a proper closure, since George is one of the main character from season 1
I would think that if he had an attachment to his character on the show he would’ve wanted that story to be part of the “record” of George… but who knows. He seems a bit like a spoiled brat but I can see where he would’ve been offended by the lack of character development last season… I’ll miss George. TR? not so much…
I don’t understand how they going to shoot his death in the OR, his funeral etc without him?
If they start the season 6 where they left, so they have to try to revive Izzy and George. How? Using some plastic George?

wow! that would have been a great episode, its a brilliant idea…. too bad he didnt want to do it. I understand why he left because if he felt underappreciated then there was no reason for him to be there anymore…. but he should have agreed to do that one last episode… not for shonda…. but for us, the fans, the people who love george… the ones who wanted to see that last day of george’s life… we wanted to know why he `saved that girl, we wanted to see him one last time… damn it!
I am really upset that we didn’t get to see that. It would have at least given us one last chance to see George, plus he would get a lot of screen time, which is the reason why he left the show.
now i am 100% sure that T.R Knight is an ass, he’s ungreatful, he bites the hand that let him eat… ok .. i understand why he went away from the show, we get it .. but he couldn’t stay for at least 1 episode ??? really he’s an ass.

I really wish that he would have done that final episode. I am a George fan and would have loved to see the events that led up to his untimely death. I think that it would have been a great episode. But I do understand why he left, but still. He should have done it for the fans. Not for anyone else. Give us the closure of knowing what happened and why he saved her.
It’s a real shame that T.R. didn’t want to film that last episode. It would have been really nice to see him one last time, in the caring way all his fans knew him. I agree with Sally, that he should have done the last episode for his fans, the ones who are really going to miss him. I’m really sad that T.R. is leaving the show. I’ve been watching GA from the first episode, and I’ve always loved George. Can’t all of us remember the first episode? It’s going to be weird turning on the tv to watch GA, and not see George. I wish he had decided to do that last episode, but that’s his decision. Bye George :’(

George was a really bad character in the last season, he never showed up. he only had about half the time on screen as the rest of the supporting cast. Shondra was mean to him because he wanted to leave. I don’t think he would have left if she treated him with more respect and gave him the spot light he deserved.
T.R was an amazing actor all through Grey’s, but Shondra’s huge mistake was letting him get away. With all her bad decisions, soon most of the cast will want to leave. After a few of them have left, the rest will too, because it will be such a stupid show without the core. basically Grey’s is just going to go downhill from now on. burke and Addison leaving fit in the timing of the show, but George, was a huge mistake. and if you want your ratings to keep going down Rhimes, change your attitude and don’t let any of them leave. it’s not “your” show. sure you created it, but the characters are what make the show. it’s THEIR show. stop making such terrible decisions. and stop treating the cast like their yours to discard and change. they need a say in what happens, it’s THEIR show.
I too wished that T.R. Knight would have filmed the last day of his life. The show won’t be the same without him in it. Especially since the show never followed up on Izzy and George and their relationship. The show has made it this far because of ALL the cast. I am a disappointed fan.
it would be very cool to start the season off at his funeral and have none other then georges old pal Dr.burke there! it would be a great start!

I really cannot believe george is dead… he was really sweet and i did not wanted him to end up this way… they could at least pretend he went to the army… it’s better than getting killed. T.R. Knight should do one last episode… for Dr. George O’Malley’s fans!! its a great idea, and i really hope he comes around and do it!
I’m disappointed as well. The episode would bring so much closure to George’s character. I hope TR changes his mind and shoot that last scene with the cast and crew, it would be a beautiful scene.
I am sad that T.R. is leaving. I loved George. I think the last episode of season five was beautiful how they had Izzie ans George meet “on the other side” since they couldn’t see each other or know what was going on with each other. If TR decides to do the episode it would be a great follow up of the last episode and he owes it to his character and GA’s fans. He should care about it was apart of his life for five years!!!!!! Although T.R gets on my nerves…you whine too much. After all of your complaining about Isaiah Washinton and getting him to leave the show, who was a great character. And Katherine was behind you…now you just leave anyway and she wants to leave too. T.R. at least owes this episode to all of GA’s fans. THE ENTIRE SHOW IS DIFFERENT BECAUSE OF YOU. So what you had bad days at work, who doesn’t and you’re getting paid a lot more than actual doctors. Suck it up!!!!

Seriously does anyone blame him? Shonda has ruined the whole show. She pushed him out! He was a fan favorite to so many including myself and she got rid of him for no reason. No wonder he wanted to quit after the lack of air time he was given and then having his character killed off. Good for you TR for not giving into Shonda and her selfish ways. I’m so sick of her and I totally get what people say about her now. She just ruined the show. And she tries to cover it by saying the episodes haven’t aired yet?! PLEASE we all know what’s going to happen since you and your crew can’t be quiet!
I “truly” think that it was all wrong, and that due to George was “The Glue” that held them together. We should have gotten “more” than just a short funeral and Izzy lay on the floor and morning that went on forever over Denny. I can NOT understand WHY no-one seems to be morning or missing George as they did for Denny. Even Burk got missed more than George!
One of the many reasons why I fell in love with GA’s was because of George. His first three seasons brought out the best of Izzie, Bailey, & Chief’s character even BURKE’S! He was the glue. When he decided to get married so quickly, I think that was the turning point of his character. I couldn’t accept it. I took a dislike with Callie’s character because of it. They didn’t even know each other. I liked the idea of him and Izzie but their chemistry lacked many points. Yeah, they’re suitable more as Bestfriends, but I think the writer’s of the show should’ve given us a closer to their relationship. I sensed TR’s retreating character in S4, if he wasn’t happy it definitely showed and I don’t blame him. Those who think he is selfish for just leaving like that, but when really writer’s had 2 full seasons to fix their problems with each other. Maybe when time passes, at the end of GA’s (which is soon since everyone’s wanting to leave the show) he will decide to give them ‘his’ goodbye episode. I think the cast understands him. Even the new interns got more screen time then him in S5. And honestly I lost interest half way through S4.
when izzy looked up and saw george standing there, the realization on her face, just brought more tears! it was heart breaking! she knew straight away that they were both dead!
but now after reading a few of these little spoilers, it seems that not everyone is certain that izzy is dead? so i then wonder if perhaps she was just kind of like a messanger, taking george to heaven? like how merideths mum talked to her when she almost drownd? and it’s izzy because she was so close 1, to death and 2, to george.
i simpley can not wait for the netx season to start! it’s not fair having to wait so long!! poor Alex has to wait with us which isn’t fair ether!!!!
i hope izzy and alex manage to have a child in some crazy way so that if she does die he won’t be alone! =D
