Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer of So You Think You Can Dance & American Idol, along with American Idol judge and producer Simon Cowell have created what may be another hit reality competition for us. And they’ve brought it to a new network. Their other shows have been on FOX, but the new Superstars of Dance will be on NBC.
The series will pit the greatest dance performers from all over the world against each other in a competition like no other. It will be hosted by Michael Flatley (Lord of the Dance) and co-hosted by Susie Castillo (House of Payne) and will bring us dancers from eight countries. The eight countries currently scheduled to participate include: Ireland, India, USA, Argentina, China, Russia, South Africa and Australia.
With so many different dance styles competing against each other, it may be dangerously close to the chaos of America’s Got Talent, where it becomes impossible to judge apples against oranges…just my own editorial fear…
But if they can make sense of things, it could prove to be another great dance show. I’ll be covering the series on my dance reality blog, Dance Watcher. I’m hoping for the best. Be sure to tune in to the premiere of Superstars of Dance on Sunday, January 4 (9-11 p.m. ET) on NBC.
