One of the hottest fashion trends this year is making its mark on Gossip Girl: pearls. And why not? Nothing says uber-chic like a classic strand of pearls (think Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s).
Consider:
Kati and Isabel have fun with strands of pearls.
Blair goes for her best Audrey Hepburn look, with a little help from Chuck.
Blair checks out her reflection with a single pearl necklace.
Want the look? You can duplicate these looks for thousands – by using the real thing – at Tara & Sons.
These necklaces retail (from left to right) for $21,000, $27,000 and $5,000. Beautiful.
But for the rest of us? Glass pearls are likely more our speed. You can find the looks for less a retailer like Megumi.
These pearls, at $160 and $180, respectively, are a whole lot more affordable (nobody has to know) and just as stunning.
So whether you’re dressing up for drinks at the Palace or dressing “down” for school, consider throwing on a string (or two) of pearls to add a little class to your outfit. Pearls make a statement.
As for diamonds? So Eleanor, not Blair. Remember what Holly Golightly said:
I don’t want to own anything until I know I’ve found the place where me and things belong together. I’m not quite sure where that is just yet. But I know what it’s like…. It’s like Tiffany’s…. Not that I give a hoot about jewelry. Diamonds, yes. But it’s tacky to wear diamonds before you’re forty…

I love pearls. Lucky me, I have a pair of real natural ones that my great-aunt had in the twenties, in her flapper days. I inherited it when she died a few years back. I say if you have no real ones, go splurge! Spending some green is better than a fake, even with pearls.
[...] This outfit is particularly cute, I love the preppy look and Blair really works it (it could have looked very dated). I think it sums Blair up: fashion forward yet traditional, able to mix it up but not too eclectic. And of course, she has on pearls. [...]
