Gilmore Girls Episode Recap:
Richard is late for dinner and the girls are hungry. He’s taken to repairing an old car. Comes in all greasy in his coveralls. Emily sends him to change, refusing his offer to let them start eating.
Luke has a new special – he’s never had a new special. Lorelai orders it, with modifications. Basically changes it completely. Drives him crazy. Rory notices that the handwriting on the sign is Jess’ – Lorelai is piqued. Rory mentions the margin notes. Dean drops by. Rory seems annoyed. Luke won’t give him the special omelette.
Rory is leading the group for the Business Fair at Chilton. Brad transferred back to ‘face his fears’ – Paris? The group has to come up with a consumer product geared to high school kids. And invite a parent as business advisor. Paris nearly forces Rory to ask Lorelai.
Sookie’s wedding invitations are fudged – they say Susie instead of Sookie. Michel is excited that his mother is coming to visit. Sookie yells at the invitation people.
Lorelai can do the advisor, but suggests Richard instead. Retired business guy. So, she does. He says things are hectic and it’s short notice, so Rory excuses him and says it’s ok. Emily yells at him for saying no. For turning his back on Rory. Asks if Richard is that lost?
Lane’s career aptitude shows her to be good at sales, which annoys her. Dean drops by again to ask her (or rather demand) to comes see his softball game before their date that night. Rory backs her way out with difficulty.
Michel’s mom comes to the Inn early with presents and loads of compliments. She sounds fun!
Richard agreed to help Rory and is at Chilton for the group meeting. Louise’s lipstick lojack get the axe. As does Madeline’s locker robot. Paris pulls out her formal proposal for a locker first aid kit poshed up for teens. Richard loves it. And is ready to cancel his whole day to help.
Rory comes home to a phone ringing off the hook. Dean is calling over and over again. Richard calls to suggest they meet at his place tomorrow. Turns out Dean left 10 messages on the machine and 4 with Lorelai. Lorelai says he must feel insecure. Though Rory calls him, pages him, spends all her free time with him. It’s just not normal anymore. She’s unhappy. Lorelai says to ride it out.
So Michel has secrets with his mom too – he eats mountains of food he never would otherwise, and she thinks he loves it.
The first StyleAid Corporation board meeting is taking place at the Gilmore house. Paris pulls out the Rx2002 prototype. Richard outlines the accessories available for the deluxe model, some of which he came up with. Emily offers snacks and is rather pleased when Richard tells her to leave their business meeting.
Lorelai comes home and Dean is in the driveway washing Rory’s car. Lorelai invites him inside for a talk. Tells Dean she’s glad Rory found him, but she sees that things are ‘off’ between them. That trying to hold on to what you think you’re losing can mean sometimes holding too tight. Lorelai suggests giving Rory space – that sometimes helps get things back to normal. To let Rory come to Dean instead. He leaves – Lorelai looks worried.
Michel yells at Lorelai for telling his mother he doesn’t eat carbs. He says their relationship is perfect because they talk about nothing but light and fluffy things. Now his mother is interrogating him about everything. He tells Lorelai he hates her for turning his "Giselle into a mother."
Business fair. Richard and Paris think they are going to win – the competition looks bad. The Headmaster comes to say hi to Richard and seems to look down on Richard’s retired ‘good life’. They don’t win – a locker alarm does. Richard is outraged. Goes to complain to the Headmaster. Calls the contest a disgrace. Makes a scene.
Emily seems distraught – Richard has been locked in his study since the Fair. Rory feels guilty. Lorelai suggests a psychiatrist – doesn’t go over well with Emily. The Gilmores are not deviants. Richard comes out in high spirits. The week made him realize he hates being retired. So he is going into business for himself. Consult or teach, not sure. But no more being retired. He thanks Rory for bringing back his vitality.
Dean has only paged once in two days. Rory even had a chance to miss him. But doesn’t want to call. She has plans with Lane and may go to Luke’s (the idea upsets Lorelai). Lorelai drops off Rory, who again says ‘tomorrow’s fine’ to call Dean, then goes home. Dean is waiting.
"She likes Jess, doesn’t she?"
Lorelai doesn’t say anything. She doesn’t need to.

hey i know that this is totally off the subject and i havent commented in a long time but here it goes…..Alexis Bledel is staring in “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” movie which is to air on ABC Family for the first time and i just wanted to let you knolw since it hasnt been mentioned on this web site. It is also news about the Gilmore Girls cast,not big news but still news none the less. I just thought that you would like to know so you could post it if you wanted to let people know if they are interested in watching.

Dean is SO annoying in this episode. He called way too much!!! What kind of guy does that? No wonder Rory never wanted to talk to him. I think he was probably calling so much because he knew Rory had moved on, though. He was trying to hold on to her, but she was already far gone. Rory probably didn’t break up with Dean because she was scared. After all, Dean was her first boyfriend. And Jess isn’t anything like Dean. Dean was reliable and trustworthy, and Jess wasn’t so much. It would be very scary to leave someone like Dean for the possibility of someone like Jess.
Poor Dean; that last scene was sad. Realizing the truth for what it is is tough. Maybe Rory doesn’t even know the truth as yet, or putting off the inevitable. Shades of inexperience calling.
yeah, i´d buy paris´s kit thing. i think it´s a useful thing to have around
I’m agree with you sara.I cant believe that Dean is so annoying for call so much this episode,but Rory not feel talk to him on the phone.Rory just afraid break up with Dean for Jess,but maybe she dont want Dean get hurt like what happen and what Dean did to Rory last 1 season.Lorelai dont want if Rory get trouble from Jess,that why she want Rory stay together with Dean,but Rory not,cuz she just like Jess this episode.
I wouldn’t buy paris’ locker thing…It’s just not something that I would need.
What I do think is wrong, but very Paris, is that Rory is the leader of the group but Paris takes over and takes control.
Well Paris is a controlling intense kind of person. I dont think she could almost help it. I would so buy that locker thing though!! I’ve seen this ep a few times and really liked it. Dean is really annoying in this though. 14 times in 3 hours!:O hmm anyway. but why is Lorelai upset that rory and lane might be going to Luke’s? I dont get that!
She’s upset because she wants Rory to stay with Dean and she knows that she’s going to Luke’s because she wants to see Jess even though she won’t admit it.
You’re totally right Sara. I just realized she wants to go there for Jess not to eat. Anyway, I felt sooooo bad 4 Dean in this episode. I can see why he stuck to her so much.
Fans of Rory are not going to like what I’m about to say, but it’s the truth:
Dean is JUSTIFIED in acting weirdly. Rory continually puts him off for Jess. She’s emotionally cheating on him. I’d go into the whole psychoanalysis of the situation, but I’m busy.
