- Why can’t Rory write the letter to Jess – what does she want to write?
- When Rory tells Paris about love, is she talking about Jess?

Gilmore Girls Episode Recap & Photos:
Dozens of alarm clocks go off to wake up Lorelai. She yells down at who we presume did it, Rory, but instead we see Luke in the kitchen. Have what seems like normal morning banter before he kisses her goodbye for the day. And says bye to her stomach too because of the baby twins inside it.
Then Lorelai wakes up from her dream. She calls Rory, who is still in Washington, to tell her about the dream. Rory tells her that it means she secretly loves Luke and wants to have his babies. When asked, she tries again. That Lorelai is hurt about Chris and jealous that Sherry is having his baby, not her.
Rory sees all the letters from Dean, but moves them aside. And stares at a blank letter to Jess.
Sookie wants to repaint her house – so it feels more like ‘our’ house with Jackson. He loves it just as it is. Taylor is in a wheelchair – someone tripped him up with a banana peel. He is setting up the first Stars Hollow End of Summer Madness Festival. He sounds very excited. Lorelai sees Luke at the diner. Looks like their fight is not over.
Paris is chatting up / being critical of the Senators at the final luncheon in Washington. Paris is being asked out by another student, and doesn’t even realize it. Rory points it out to her.
"Oh man, I can’t believe this. I finally get asked out on a date and I missed it."
Kirk has developed "Hay There" – a skin care line inspired by cows. Offers it free to Lorelai to test.
Emily calls to chide Lorelai on not immediately welcoming them home from Martha’s Vineyard. Lorelai lies on behalf of Rory to say she doesn’t get back until Saturday. Emily wants Chris to come to a dinner – to see the three of them together.
Rory and Dean are doing the ‘I miss you’ bit while Paris goes manic about what to wear. Feels overwhelmed and unplanned. Doesn’t want to date the wrong guy. Rory says Paris will know when she finds the right guy – talks about similar interests in books and movies as part of it, as well as being slightly different to compliment each other. She blushes thinking of the excitement of love.
Paris pushes Rory into a closet so her date won’t want to date Rory instead. And already thinks her date perfection for using the Zagat.
Sookie finds a ‘manly’ stuffed fish to man up her house. Lorelai bribes Mrs. Kim not to sell it to Sookie.
Rory comes home. Lorelai meets her at the airport in a hug that knocks them both down. Tells Rory she has got her off dinner to see Dean. That’s an uncomfortable ‘oh.’ Neither of them are yet speaking to Chris - ‘ya ya’ solidarity. Rory insists on changing before going to the festival – gets all fancy. Lorelai thinks it’s for Dean.
Sookie and Jackson are having a big fight because she redecorated in her version of ‘manly’ because she won’t believe he was happy.
They go to the festival – Rory looking all around her. Kirk warns them that his Hey There cream is not safe. Rory spots Jess… making out with another girl.
Lorelai says to Rory that she dodged a bullet – that she didn’t throw everything away for Jess. Rory admits to Lorelai she’s upset about Jess. Lorelai thought the crush was over. Rory tells her about Jess coming to see her at the wedding and about their kiss. Thought Jess came back for her. Lorelai says kissing another guy is not "being with Dean." Lorelai says to do something – pick one or the other. Tells Rory she is treating Dean like dirt. That if she doesn’t want to be with Dean to break it off. Just then, Dean walks up. And she’s hugging Dean… but looking at Jess.
Lorelai preps Emily to tell her something – Emily gets the wrong idea. First gives her a scone mix and the drama over Lorelai not baking. Lorelai tells them about Chris, but not about why. Emily insists on a solid adult reason why. Lorelai tells them and a fight about "already being a father" vs "going to be a father" ensues. Richard defends Chris for being with someone who will "allow him" to be a father to his child. That Lorelai missed her chance with him. Lorelai just gets up and walks out.
Lorelai drives back into town and goes to see Luke. Says she’s not there to talk or reconcile – she had a bad night and needs coffee. But does talk.
Lorelai says it’s the second time she’s thought she found love, safety... that she always expected they could be together if he just grew up. Which he did – but now gets to be ‘that guy’ with ‘her’. That Sherry is pregnant. And that Chris will be there for Sherry in all the ways he never was for Lorelai. That she’s in the very same spot as she was before.
Luke reminds her that she has Rory, friends, a house, a job. She knows she’s lucky – but feels she’s never going to have ‘it’ – the whole package. The person and the couple life. And that she really wants it. Lorelai is emotional and crying. Luke slides her a donut and tells her she’ll get ‘it.’ Their fight is over.
Lorelai apologizes to Rory for their earlier discussion. She still thinks Rory needs to make up her mind. Rory say’s there’s still a Dean. That she must have been crazy to crush on Jess. Her pro/con list decided that Dean deserves all her attention.

LOL Jessie! That’s so funny. A had a heart-attack!
I recall that when watching this episode, especially the famous dream sequence, I was FREAKING out — I was certain I had missed many episodes and that Luke and Lorelai were indeed together. I got a heart attack when Lorelai woke up… but was quite pleased to know that I had NOT missed any episodes!!
BTW if anyone else knows “dream theory” you’d be able to recongize all the Freudian symbolisms in the dream sequence… ASP is a genius.
Well I think Lorelai got used to Luke being a great source of comfort to her when at times life seems to throw tomatos at her. Not being able to go and talk to Luke about things in her life might have hurt her more than what she realizes. I think that might have part to do with her dream. I think Luke didn’t “feel sorry” for Lorelai when she cried at the diner. She showed him her vulnerable side and I think it reflected how much trust/respect she has for him. That’s why he was able to look past the fight and see the person he loves to see happy being broken. I’m just glad things with them were finally able to go back to normal.
My favorite scene in the beginning Lorelai’s dream about Luke kiss her and she get pregnant with Luke’s babies.I love part and I’m so happy that Luke and Lorelai finally talk and friend again, when Lorelai told him that she said sorry. and disuss about Chris and stuff this episode.
This has to be one of my favorite episodes with my favorite scene at the beginning. I agree that it was “mean” to tease us, but at least we got to see Luke & Lorelei kiss!
a great episode…i love all the clocks to wake up Lorelia that was hilarious…then when lorelia commented about Rory’s dream about taylor hulla hooping…now that was funny…i love this episode
definately one of the top 5 episodes ever. Amy and Dan starting off a new season that way was almost cruel… but so funny in hindsight ^^
The lazy hazy crazy days of summer song was stuck in my head for days after watching this episode =/
