Gilmore Girls Episode Recap & Photos:
Lorelai is astounded that the plural of cul-de-sac is culs-de-sac. Lane is now working at Luke’s Diner. And is doing such an efficient job that it’s freaking Luke out – he even seems embarrassed to have ‘blown’ his interview with her. He’s worried the job is not challenging enough for Lane – that she’ll get bored and leave.
Rory says Paris is off for a ski weekend with her boyfriend. Rory hasn’t mentioned seeing Paris kissing Asher Fleming yet. And doesn’t here. And now Luke seems to be quietly taking orders from Lane!
Time for an Inn meeting at Sookie’s. Michel gets angry at Sookie trying to feed him and ends up waking up Davie. Toban is Davie’s nanny! Michel is riled up that he’s around and is taking Sookie shopping. Feels like Toban is butting in.
Lorelai is still on about culs-de-sac at Friday night dinner. Richard & Emily are excited to share the marzipan they brought back from Switzerland. Not a candy the girls like by any means. Jason stops by with some documents and he and Lorelai pretend not to be familiar. Lorelai offers him some marzipan – he tortures through it. Emily had noticed that Lorelai spat hers out. And offers Rory a napkin when it becomes apparent Rory hasn’t swallowed hers either.
Lorelai excused herself to call Jason, who had been away in Australia. He says he thought about her a lot. They make a date for Monday.
Rory is back on campus early after winter break, and spots Paris kissing Asher Fleming again. Paris comes in and claims also to have gotten back from her ski trip with Jamie early.
Lorelai drops some pizza on the floor and is proceeding to sweep pizza crumbs under the dishwasher when Rory comes in. Rory was not into sharing her ‘alone time’ with Paris back at Yale. Rory tells Lorelai about Asher. Lorelai tells Rory they are probably doing more than just kissing – they are doing ‘older man things.’ Asking about his age, starting near 30, Lorelai is stunned to hear Asher is 60! Rory is not into the intrigue and the secrets.
Lorelai reminds Rory that if Paris likes another guy, there’s not much they can do about it, even if they do like Jamie. Lorelai compares him to Dean. They talk about what Yale would do if they knew. Lorelai says,
"Yes, well, they’ll always have Paris."
She just had to make that joke.
Lorelai runs to the aid of Michel, who had offered to babysit "it" – Davie. Who proceeded to cry until Michel invented ‘baby crepe’ – rolling Davie back and forth in a blanket. He loved it. Until Michel pulled too hard and Davie rolled under the bed. Then Davie fell asleep. So, in comes Lorelai. She gets Davie out from under the bed. Michel says he hates Toban – the tooshie kisser who weasels into every area of Michel’s life. He thinks eventually Toban will win and take everything away from him – his life, the Inn.
The final part of getting onto the Yale Daily News has begun. They all make paper hats – the new people wait on the seasoned staff while they try to get out the next edition of the paper. Doyle compliments Rory’s harsh reviews and Paris’ intimate interview with Asher Fleming. Says bad things about Time Magazine. Paris begs for Rory’s opinion about her piece on Asher. Then Paris gets a call from someone that makes her smile – and leaves, though she’s not supposed to.

Jason and Lorelai discuss her movie watching habits – her constant chatter almost had got them into trouble. They are now back at Jason’s place. Lorelai notices the lack of chotchkies, the lack of whimsy, in his place. Even Jason’s dog is very calm. Though he may not do ’sit’ or ‘lie down’, he does do ‘a little to the left.’ Lorelai says Jason and his dog are extremely weird. Kissing in front of the dog is a little weird, but thankfully Jason has taught him how to face the wall.
Doyle’s reason for being pissy comes out – he was rejected to be Yale stringer to Time Magazine. When someone points out that Paris is not there, and Rory is surprised, Rory decides to cover for Paris saying there was a family thing.
Lorelai is cuddled down in Jason’s bed wondering how many calories she just burnt off. Lorelai says she’ll fall asleep extremely happy. And now Lorelai learns about another of Jason’s quirks – that he wants Lorelai to sleep in the guest room. He says he’s a light sleeper and can’t sleep in the same bed with anyone. Lorelai thinks he’s trying to blow her off.
Lorelai goes to see his guest room, which is decked with books and DVDs and a mini-bar and a tv that comes out of the footboard. Very snazzy. Jason would love it – but he can’t sleep with those distractions. Which convinces Lorelai that he is telling the truth. It’s a bit deal to Jason that she stay.
4am that morning, Paris comes back home. Rory pretends to be asleep, but it’s clear Paris wants her to wake up. She wants to brag to Rory about where she was. Rory doesn’t want to know anything about it – she had to cover for Paris and is not happy about it. Rory especially doesn’t want to know ‘who’ Paris was with. All Paris can say to that is:
"I smell like pipe tobacco."
Lorelai slept extremely well and then had a vanilla scented Jacuzzi bath. She’s very happy. Jason has breakfast – and good coffee – ready for Lorelai already. Lorelai wants to know what they should say to her parents about them. She would like to not mention them dating.
The Gilmore house is conducting a walking tour with the historical society – even while dinner is going on! The event is for charity, so Emily feels bad stopping it, even if their lives are on showcase. Richard goes to correct the incorrect history of the house.
Rory is a full-fledged newspaper woman now. When Emily and Richard come back they chat about the function that they went to the past night – was a great one. Good food, good music, good guest list. One dumb woman without underwear – who turns out to be Jason’s date! Richard says she was quite beautiful. Emily says she was perfect for Jason. Then again, she thinks Jason is an immature con artist. Lorelai doesn’t digest this well.
Lorelai, Sookie and Michel are overseeing the construction at the Inn. Jason stops by to see the Inn. Lorelai brings up the function and Jason’s date. He defends himself – that Crystal was only a friend. And that Lorelai told him their relationship was secret from her parents, so he had no choice but to bring someone else. Jason just wants to tell the Gilmore’s the truth. He goes to a lot of functions and he would prefer to take Lorelai. Lorelai refuses – says it’s not time yet. She’d rather adjust.
It’s Rory’s first day of classes for the semester, Contemporary Political Fiction. And her teacher? Asher Fleming! He remembers Rory and say hi. He says it’s only natural – they have someone very "important" in common. Rory thinks he means Paris, but he says Richard.

I don’t think Paris went on a ski trip with Jamie at all. I still can’t believe she dats a 60 year old man!! I have never gotten over that! Ew! Moving on… I also think Toban would be better at the Inn instead of just a night manager.
OMG, no, Toban (I actually thought it was Tobin) shouldn’t be the day manager instead of Michel! He’s creepy and he’s a suck-up and you should never trust a suck-up! I find the whole Paris/Asher thing very weird, but at the same time pretty fitting that she goes out with an older man. I find it very weird that she doesn’t immediately break things off with Jamie, that jsut seems very out of character to me, she seems like the very straighforward ruthless type that would just go for what she wants and would immediately make a clean break with Jamie in order to acomplish it. Rory’s attitude to the whole thing is pretty immature, I mean I totally get the whole ick factor, but to just ignore it, that would not be my style!
I think Lorelai’s refusal to tell her parents about Jason is a bit weird but totally in character. She has a very strange relationship with them and even though she’d initially choose to go out with someone because her mother wouldn’t like it, she isn’t quite mean or spitefull enough to throw it in her mothers face, she doesn’t want to cause the up-set, she wants to keep the peace. It’s ill conceived not to tell them, but it’s classic Lorelai in my opinion – she deliberately goes against her parents wishes, but at the same time wishes them no harm, doesn’t want to cause them any (more) pain.
I love that Lane’s started to work at the diner and it’s always makes me laugh the way Luke gets all frazzled around her in the beginning and is worried that HE screwed the interview up, hilarious!
I dont think Paris not go to with Jamie for ski trip and lied to Rory.I cant believe Paris dating Asher Fleming,he is 60 year old.I just little mad Jason for hurt Lorelai about his date, when he told Emily and Richard.Jason is lit jerk this episode.
Jason and his quirks– he’s gonna be single forever! Not wanting to sleep in the same bed as his lover at night? thats wacked! i totally can’t see Lorelai being with a man that she can’t cuddle and fall to sleep with at night after making love… totally not her!
the whole Asher and paris thing creeps me out. makes me think of me being with my best friends grandpa, or MY OWN grandpa– very creepy.
I hate Toban and is just a big fat bootlicker!!! I think it´s so cute that Michelle got jealous! If I was Rory I would also have freaked out like hell, because of the whole Asher and Paris thing. It´s so disgusting!!!
But I still don´t like him!
I kind of liked the Lorelai and Jason scenes. I think it´s funny that he can´t sleep with someone else in one bed
i hate jason!!! he seems fake in a way! something always has to be about him!
I hate Jason!! He is soo annoying and i can never ever picture Lorelai with him.
I find Paris and Asher’s relationship weird…i mean i guess i cant really imagine it.
If a guy ever did the I-can’t-Sleep-In-The-Same-Bed-With-Someone thing to me I would be VERY offended no matter what expensive technology he had in his guest room. It shows he’s afraid to get too close to another person.
i hear ya!!
i would have been out of that relationship so fast!
Jason – icky weird the 1st time around, and still icky.
Wondered about that looooooong scarf Lorelai wore in the opening sequence. I’d be tripping once it got wrapped up in b/w my legs.
Oh just saw Kelly Bishop in “An Unmarried Woman” … had her Emily harido and some similar Emily mannerism. She hasn’t changed much and that movie is from 1978!
