I dont think the show ended like it should have at all. Dont get me wrong im not bashing the ending cuz i still love the show more then anything however I hated that Rory said no to logan. He was an amazing guy and I feel like she should have told him yes to the engagement but just waited a while before actually gettin married becuz tht would have satisfied them both..a good compromise. And Luke and lorelai did get together in the end but everyone wanted to see a marriage. Lorelai tends to end her relationships quite a bit so it left viewers wondering if they ever broke up after that. There were too many important loose ends that werent tied. Then there’s the fact that amy sherman palladinos famous “last words” were not put in the show. I mean i know by season 7 she was no longer the writer (which she should have been by the way) but still they could have put her last words in and everybody is saying they will put them in the movie but the odds of a movie really happening are extremely slim. I mean alexis was the won who wanted to end the show in the first place. and I understand where shes comin from cuz doin a show for 7 years ties up alot of ur time where u could be workin on other projects but at the same time it was such an excellent show the least she could have done was hung on for one more season just so the faithful viewers could have gotten the ending they deserved. Well thats all I really think about it. But the day I said bon voyage to the gilmore girls i felt a little piece of me die :(

I feel like gilmore girls was not ready to make this 7.22 their last ep. In fact, there were SO MANY LOOSE ENDS. and i thought that should not what an ending should be.
i wanted an ending like the OC or Alias, at least it gave us some peace.
Actually they can still continue on with a season 8, they can start RORY’s career as a journalist and lorelai and luke getting married.
we have been avid fans of this show, and i think we deserved more than what they gave us :)

[...] Girls, they call it a “bittersweet finale“, and of that we can all agree (recaps here and here). Though a lot of us would like the show to pick back up in some form, to tie up loose [...]

I think the reason why we all still so hung on this finale is because it didn’t give proper closure.
I know that LG said it was a good end for the show (they didn’t know it would be the last episode when they shot it). SP was not thrilled about it but said that the good thing about it was that now the fans could imagine what comes next.
Still it would have been better to have all that on screen, even for a short season (like Boston Legal did) in order to say a great goodbye to the Gilmore girls.
I’m glad we had a chance to see the whole town in the last episode, including Emily & Richard.
For me, there is no doubt that Luke did all this because he loves his Gilmore girls more than anything and I’m glad C. was not there. That would have ruined everything.
It’s no surprise that he doesn’t want Lorelai to know that he’s behind all this. That’s how he has always acted, in secrets.
Sookie certainly told Lorelai about it because she always thought they belonged together from the very first season.
I like the sentence “take all the time you need” because it’s a two-way meaning : for food and for their relationship. I’m sorry we didn’t get to see them talking after the kiss because they sure have many issues to resolve.
Rory certainly knows about her mum back together with Luke with the necklace and the look she gives to her mother.
I think Richard is right: the party was for both Rory and Lorelai. I like what he says about Lorelai: it takes a remarkable person to inspire all this. I’m glad he finally acknowledges what a great person his daughter is.
I keep hoping that someday we’ll hear ASP’s final four words. That would be awesome but nobody seems to be moving forward contrary to Veronica Mars, Arrested development or Sex and the city which seems to be on track for a sequel to the movie.
Don’t they think that we deserve something? The cast and crew always acknowledged that the fans were the real force behind the show, well it’s time to give us credit for that!

I stand for this answer! It rang when quietstormfst wrote in gilmore-girls-season-8/ Dec 6, 2008 at 3:06 am : [I just wanted to piggy back on some of the other comments that I’ve read this morning. I, like the rest of you, miss my favorite mother/daughter duo. It was terribly disappointing to see how the series ended; just leaving us hanging like they did!!! (((It just proves that UPN made a terrible mistake by merging with CW.)))]
When I read this, all the questions I had, began to find a place helping my understanding. I didn’t know that Veronica Mars and GG was related all the same. Since, I’m in peace, for I have no expectation anymore.
Nothing comes out from nothing or nowhere. The forces that made the show possible were coming from many sources, and were converging to some spots we could call energy spots. And there, there were some collectors, (we can call them writers, actors, producers, bankers…), that gave some forms to those forces and energy. Veronica Mars and GG came out of them. Then life went on with the merging of UPN and CW. That meant that many people and thinking were concerned and taken in the tornado, and nothing was like it was before. Those forces that were coming to UPN and CW are not the same that come to WB. The former forces and energies are now dispersed, some great supporters of the show are now involved in other projects, often elsewhere.
When someone wants something, he always has to address the right person, not a surrogate. There is no any right person anymore to address in order to ask him or her to get back the show again. That person or spirit vanished when the fusion between the two companies occurred. Of course, we may argue about what happened next about the hesitancy about the signing process, and so one, but if the right atmosphere was gone, things couldn’t go on, that’s a law.
The process of the fusion occurred while the sixth season was airing, and already we could feel the difference. It didn’t survive the seventh. The forces that made GG to happen were dispersed, and nobody was there to address, or to defend or to take it.
Now, it’s only a matter of civil matter, law matters, rights to broadcast matter, and so one. No real person to address, only legal texts that assume the process, only legal texts that receive the petitions coming from all the fans around the world, no one to listen to. It’s a kind of department of the public reaction, and those that are employed, or at work here are there to assume a function about the rating, the reaction of the public and the right way to response to them. Not a heart, not an ear, only texts, and functions: Public relation is made of that stuff. There is no message in it. There is nothing. Only some staffs assuming the role of saying NO, “we are not concerned”, in a polite way that may look like a yes, or a perhaps, but that IS a definitive way of saying NO. “NO WAY!”

Nil-Wren, quite a pessimistic point of view but I get it.
Even though I’m pretty sure we’ll never have anything there’s still a part of me that hopes that someday some people will say: let’s give the fans what they deserve.
Maybe if other TV movies from other TV shows are made ASP will be inspired.
Otherwise I just try to enjoy the wonderful 153 episodes we have.

Me too, I received the whole set. I had to wait in order to be able to afford it, but it worths it. And when we have accepted the reality, it’s easier to be interested in other shows, or to look forwards too, like for instance the one LG is preparing for ABC…
