"Gilmore Girls" Called "Pure, Concentrated Happiness"

Here’s another wonderful little write-up of Gilmore Girls by a TV critic for NJ.com, naming the show as one of the best of the decade. What’s cool about this list is it’s included as one of the best comedies, along with other shows like The Office, 30 Rock, and Scrubs. One of the more under-appreciated aspects of Gilmore Girls is all the comedy that can be found. It’s often thought of as just a family drama or soap opera (which it certainly had elements of), but it also had some wonderfully funny moments and one-liners. Here’s what Alan Sepinwall had to say:

It got on the air thanks in part to a coalition of advertisers looking for family-friendly programming, and “Gilmore” offered up an unconventional but enormously appealing family: mom Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and teen daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel, so close in age that they often seemed more like sisters, plus the wealthy parents (Kelly Bishop and Edward Herrmann) Lorelai split from after getting pregnant at 16. As the quippy, pop culture-quoting younger Gilmores were forced to reconnect with their repressed elders, creator Amy Sherman-Palladino got plenty of laughs and tears out of the generational divide, and out of showing the family Lorelai created for herself and her daughter in the idealized, Norman Rockwell-esque town of Stars Hollow. At its best, “Gilmore Girls” was pure, concentrated happiness.

Isn’t that a great description? Here’s a fan video of some of the show’s funniest moments, which are your favorites?

I’m glad another respected TV critic recognized how wonderfully written Gilmore Girls was and considered it as one of the best comedies of the decade. I agree watching this show for seven years was pure happiness to a viewer like me

I agree with forg up there. There are also much funnier moments that that fan video should have included. For example, the ‘where have all the anvils gone?’ moment and I thought that when Mrs Kim invited Lane and the band to Korean New Year was hilarious. :D I do love that scene of Luke pushing Jess into the lake though. When I first watched it, I think I missed it and had to rewind. Good times. It’s great that Gilmore Girls is getting all this recognition again with TV critics.

Wow, that’s my video you posted. Thank you so much!!
And just to let others who may read this know, the scenes I picked were personal favorites that I found funny, I was in no means trying to imply they were the funniest in the show. It was the first video I ever made, and was honestly using it just to test out how to upload to YouTube and to get a grip on Windows Movie Maker. But thank you so much for chosing it! I know there are a lot of other, similar ones out there. I was pleasantly surprised when checking the site today =)

Always thought of GG as a comedy.
One of the best ever, smart and well written.
There is more dialogue and wordage per episode than any other show.

And best of all, they respected the audience to NOT ADD A LAUGH TRACK.

I like to chose to laugh were I want to and not to be told when to.
    No other show does that.
