Of course, fans of this site will already know this, but EW has named Gilmore Girls as one of the top 10 shows of the whole decade! It’s number 9, nestled in between The Comeback and The Shield. Their number one pick? HBO’s seminal mafia story The Sopranos. It’s a very eclectic list, and I have to commend the editors of it for picking such great shows, and for including Gilmore Girls. I feel like I always have to defend the show and this is a great way of being validated. Here’s what EW said about why they put GG on their list:
Thank you, fast-talking Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, for suggesting moms and teenage daughters really can get along — all it takes is love, patience, and copious quantities of coffee.

That list is very interesting. I love that GG made it. GG is the only show out of the entire list that I watch.

For me GG is one. Why? I have the dvd. I didn’t feel the need to buy the others, I didn’t even hit off for the other shows. Is not that they aren’t great shows, it’s that they lack something that would have hooked me. Yes perhaps it is because I’m a kind of popular elitist. I mean, I need something in a show. In Bones I always learn something, there is a logic in it. GG stands for an example, an ideal. Humanity is lucky enough to have a mind, and somewhere, we see a mind at work in order to develop her gift. That’s good for every age, because the mind capacity of learning has no limit. The ambition to develop one mind, I think, is one of the most valuable of human being. And I think that in different way, it’s what Rory and Paris give as an example. Of course there are other good realities in GG, but I think of the capacity of learning set as an example that motivate any human being as the first… So for me, GG is the ONE. The other, just good entertainment. GG, a show, almost real because all our life we have to take up challenges… As Rory, or Paris, or other student, or even Lorelai, Emily or Richard, like the figure of stability

I think it’s great that GG made the Top 10 list. What I’m wondering is, how did American Idol get up there?

I enjoyed all of the shows except American Idol and the U.K. show.
G.G. should be number one.
No other show has as much dialogue per min.
Every word means something.
Just the other day I watched an episode for the 6th time and caught something new that was said by Lorelai.
What a treat to have something so loved and familiar to go to and enjoy!!!

I’m so glad “Gilmore Girls” made the list! It really deserves to! GG is a great show that reminds me of the old classics, such as “I Love Lucy” where you can watch any episode 10 times & still love it, laugh at it, enjoy it, & maybe even discover something new that you didn’t notice the first 9 times you saw it! Anyone who doesn’t recognize the genius of GG is just really stupid & that’s that! =)
