Episode Name: "To Whom it May Concern"
Episode Number: 7.12
Air Date: January 30, 2007
Lorelai, Rory & Chris are departing from a dinner at Emily & Richard’s – a Mexican quail recipe. Richard says bye to Rory – "see you in class."
So, outside, Lorelai, Rory and Chris all pull their quail out of their pockets. Completely untouched. Now they need to ditch the evidence somehow, somewhere Emily can never find it. And whether it’s in the bush or the river, she will find it.
Lorelai is making coffee – making coffee. But, thankfully, Sookie comes to the rescue with coffee from Luke’s and muffin tops that she has freshly baked. Yum, ok, I want a muffin now.
So, why is Sookie there? At 7am. On her day off. Well, she does seem a little sly. She brings up how she and Jackson have not been skiing for a long time, not since they were married, and how she is so excited to go that day. The muffin has the "faintest aftertaste of bribe," but Lorelai is more than happy to take care of Davie and Martha.
Lorelai notices the coffee is from Luke’s. She was enjoying it until she figured out where it was, and now she is considering whether or not drinking it is ok. Chris comes downstairs to the smell of baked goods. A rare smell in the Gilmore home. Chris is ok Lorelai is going to babysit, since he’s set to install their flat screen tv that day. Ooh, Lorelai seems so excited about that. Not.
Now, Sookie is giving Lorelai and Chris hugs, and calling them special, all teary. Ahem, hormones. Ahem.
Chris compliments the coffee and then Lorelai says where it’s from – "ah", he says. But says he is ok with it.
Rory is walking through Yale, then with determination pins a letter to Lucy on Lucy & Olivia’s door.
Chris has all his flat screen & surround sound crap strewn about as Lorelai goes to "sit on some babies." Not before making fun of Chris for using Lorelai’s conditioner for his lots of hair. And says she’s looking forward to watching some "flat sports" with him later.
Luke is at the courtroom, a little early for his appointment. He seems extremely flustered, but looks very well put together. His lawyer advises him to keep quiet so nothing can be used against him. Then goes off to make a call, while Anna appears for their appointment. She sits down and starts challenging him for taking her to court. I mean, what kind of chance does he have. Just look at him, he’s no parent. Blah, blah.
Rory returns to the apartment she shares with Paris. There are a million boards strewn about the apartment. For "Operation Finish Line", which are tasks for both herself and Rory to get into the real world. Like applying to fellowships, going to job fairs, and so much more. Paris then decides that they need weekly progress reports on all this!
Lorelai arrives to Sookie & Jackson’s. Martha is taking a nap, and Davie is hiding behind Jackson. Lorelai manages to lure him out of hiding by offering him a present. Sookie comes downstairs asking if they like her outfit, but decides herself she does not like it so goes to change. Sookie seems flustered. She changes, but decides that too is not right.
Lorelai asks if Sookie is ok. The present for Davie is magic socks. Sookie then has a panic about leaving the kids. She is in tears – "don’t you need mommy?"
Sookie then goes to play with Davie on the couch. Telling him to "kick, kick" in his magic socks to get to the jungle. Aw, she is so cute with him!
Rory is waiting outside Richard’s office, as he comes out after doing office hours with another student. Rory compliments his office, asking if she’s coming as a student or grand daughter. Rory admits it’s a ‘buttering up’ visit. She’s there asking if an informal recommendation can be set up with the Dean for both Rory & Paris so that they may try to get some recommendation letters out of him. Smart act.
Richard tells Rory about his to-be lectures. She seems bored, which is unlike Rory, but admits she has a lot on her mind. The whole ‘last semester’ fears, plus the Lucy issue. Lucy has not gotten back to her, despite the long and loving letter that Rory wrote her. Rory looks heartbroken. Admits that the friend does not have enough history to know that Rory is of good character. Richard says some very nice things about her.
Lorelai is in the living room, no kids, but toys absolutely everywhere. The magic sock cleanup crew had not happened yet. Sookie is complaining like crazy about her day. Apparently Jackson would not let her ski, and tipped over her hot toddy, and would not let her order another one. Sounds like he knows something she doesn’t know.
Lorelai corners Jackson and asks what is up with him – why Sookie could not ski or drink – and what is up with Sookie. He evades. Lorelai mentions that the last time Sookie asked like this, she was pregnant. Jackson says "what" in such a way that Lorelai immediately goes "no, she isn’t, is she?" Apparently, Jackson did not get the vasectomy. He decided he didn’t have to, since she was on the pill. It made her skin glow. But Sookie had gone off the pill that month, had not told him, and Jackson noticed the signs. And now Jackson needs to tell Sookie that she’s pregnant.
"You can’t just order someone to go get a vascectomy" – Jackson to Sookie
"I am going to go for a walk. And while I’m gone, you’re going to have that taken care of. And if you don’t, I will." – Sookie
Luke, Anna, their lawyers and the judge are in a room. The lawyers are doing all the talking. Anna’s lawyer is saying Luke has not spent enough time with April to be considered a father figure, and that April has no connection to him. Luke butts in and berates Anna for not telling him about April and that’s why he could not be the father he wants to be. The judge says they should let their lawyers talk.
Sookie and Lorelai are out walking. Sookie is babbling. Mad at Jackson for not doing what he was told. That while she was with a new baby, he should have done his part. And the not telling her part. Plus, aside from being a parent again, there is the cost of having a new baby. And she complains about having 3 kids in diapers – no light at the end of the tunnel. 26 diapers a day, among them.
All they are are "eat, sleep, poop." Lorelai tries to remind Sookie of the good stuff. They are cute. Newborn smell. Giving the baby the first bath. The first time they recognize you. Another first smile. Baby sleeping on you. Now Sookie is getting all mushy, with memories of all the good things.
"I’m hormonal, and you are playing dirty" – Sookie
"Are you talking from memory, or are you thinking ahead?" – Sookie to Lorelai
Lorelai admits the topic has come up, and may come up again…
Rory and Paris are having their discussion checkup, trying to set up some volunteer activities and going over their work for the week – the competitions and whatnot. Rory notices Lucy over in the corner and gets distracted while Paris is trying to berate Rory for not pushing harder for the meeting with the Dean. Paris goes over to Lucy and asks if she has read the letter or not, and telling her to go apologize. Lucy only just got back an hour ago, so really an hour is not much time for Lucy to rush to Rory.
Lucy admits that the letter was beautiful, that Marty put her in a bad position, and Rory apologizes again. Lucy says Marty asked her to do something wrong, and she did it, because she’s a good person. A good friend. So, she gets it. Then she admits that she and Marty broke up. Rory feels responsible. But the friendship seems repaired.
The judge asks what kind of provisions are made for April in New Mexico – she replies that she has a house, a new school, swim team. Luke’s lawyer interrupts that it’s not about contesting that Anna is a good parent, but about taking away Luke’s right to see his daughter. Luke interrupts, and despite being told to shush by the lawyer and judge, he gives a speech about having made mistakes before, but wanting to be a good dad.
Chris is searching for a level for the tv. Finds it in Lorelai’s desk drawer. Along with a letter…
The judge decides to read Lorelai’s letter regarding Luke into the court record. Calls him a kind and decent man, one who made her feel less alone as a single mom. Talks about Luke always being there for Rory, no matter what. That he has been a father figure in Rory’s life, and that if given the chance he was stripped of 12 years ago, he will be a great father for April too.
"Once Luke Danes is in your life, he is in your life forever"
To deny Luke access to his daughter, would deny her all that he has to offer. This is Lorelai’s ending statement.
As Chris shakes his head in anger or hurt, Luke looks proud and happy and touched.
Lorelai returns home. Comments on the major tv, but Chris is not talking. He has the letter in front of him. She does not feel phased. Chris says it reads like a love letter, not like a character reference:
"Is our marriage for you basically just marking time?"
He says that Lorelai obviously has strong feelings for him. That he ‘always was there and always will be there.’ Chris is being all jealous, asking if Lorelai still sees Luke. Chris says that he knows Lorelai, and knows that she is not done with Luke. It’s not her way.
He asks if Lorelai is in love with Luke still. She denies it. Chris says there were signs. All sorts of signs that it was not over. Not wanting to move. Not wanting a new baby.
Lorelai tries to deny it quite strongly. Says she married him, not Luke. But Chris says he can’t handle it. Not at all. He can’t handle being her rebound. He leaves…
Rory is checking off her list of things done, and yet to do. Not wanting to take the tests to be a lawyer or doctor. That they don’t meaningfully add to her future career. Rory thanks Paris for saying those nice things to Lucy about her. They go out to meet Lucy and go tree sledding, a meaningful Yale experience they want to have before graduating.
Lorelai wakes up. Alone in bed. Chris has not slept in the bed at all. She goes to look for his car, it’s not there.
Luke calls. He is so excited. He calls to tell Lorelai that he won. That he’s so amazed, after all the dirt on him was dug up. He is so happy. Shared custody – one weekend a month, every other major holiday. He is so happy – and thanks Lorelai for her letter, which was a big help. He says how grateful he is, and Lorelai tries to say congratulations without crying.
A letter that made Chris leave, made Luke the happiest man alive.
Richard is teaching in class, making a joke about granting extensions and putting out his open office hours before starting class. He is short of breath. Looks very strained. Cannot talk. Grabs his left arm. A glass breaks and he falls down. Richard has a heart attack.
"Someone call 911" – Rory yelling as she runs to Richard

To whom it may concern, in the nearly 10 years that I have known Luke Danes, I have come know him as an honest, and decent man. He’s also one of the most kind and caring person’s I have ever met. I am a single mother, and I raise my daughter by myself, but once Luke Danes became my friend in this town, I never really felt alone. Luke and I have had our ups and downs throughout the years, but through it all, his relationship with my daughter Rory, has never changed. He’s always been there for her no matter what. He was there to celebrate her birthdays, he was there cheering her on at her high school graduation. Luke has been sort of a father figure in my daughters life. With his own daughter Luke wasn’t given the opportunity to be there for her first 12 years, but he should be given that opportunity now. Once Luke Danes is in your life, he’s in your life forever. I know from personal experience what an amazing gift that is, and not to allow him access to his daughter, would be to seriously deprive her, of all this man has to offer, and he offers so much. Thank you for your time, sincerely, Lorelai Gilmore.
I know i mean like how they were mad at rory… and then… i don’t know it just seemd like it took too much time for rory to actually comfront lucy.
Did anyone feel that there was alot of build up for the whole LUcy/OlIvia fight and then it was over in a second? I felt that was over a little tooo quickly but I guess I was kind of glad because I have missed those two. but It seemed… unfinished somehow.

OMG, that episode was great. Christophers face at the letter? Luke’s face at the letter? And I felt so bad for Lorelai at the end when she was lying in bed. I just cant wait.
But I’m gonna have to 7.13 on YouTube =[ Cause I’m busy Tuesday. I just hope they are not gonna stop putting episodes on.
It’s funny…because I was totally coming over here to say that next week’s Director’s cut is up :) CWTV is getting quick at getting those up! I think it’s going to be a really emotional episode. It will be interesting to see how they handle the different relationships. LIke, how does Luke even find out about it? My guess is Soukie…
ANyway, tres cool! :)
Oh, and the director’s cut is there, too.
This episode was great!!! Especially the letter, it had everything Chris fans needed to hear to change their minds. If you need to hear it again, here:
“To Whom It May Concern:

Sincerely,

Oh, and the CW website came out with the preview for the next episode! The only difference this preview has from the promo from last night is that it has more of Lorelai trying to reach Chris and saying something like “I am your wife and you should be here” and “It’s not ok”.

Awww, you make me so jealous guys!!
I’m from Brazil…then i’m gonna have to wait a little wild to see this episode!
&¨%$&¨*!!!
…But it must be an HUGE episode!!
..I can’t wait to see it!!
…I can’t wait to see the next episodes!!
Finally!
Finally!
Our Lorelai is opening her eyes!
She loves Luke sooooo much!
…Finally it’s time to say goodbye to Christopher!!
Lorelai and Luke are figuring out each other!
…TIME people, it’s all Lorelai and Luke need!
And we as always…must wait!
…I can’t wait to see the both together again!
I have a huge smile on my face!!
…Oh, poor Richard….
……Let’s wait to see it folks!!
It’s time to say wellcome back to Luke, and Goodbye to Christopher!!
…..This is gonna be great!!
This was without a doubt the most honest episode of the season.
Ouch for Chris, Ouch for Lorelai. We all saw it comming, but I feel bad for both of them. Even if what they did was stupid, they were trying to make it work and make the best of it.
Yay for Luke! Paris and Rory were cute too!
I Loved last nights episode!
When i saw Sookies house covered with snow it was beautiful! Everytime something happens in Lorelai’s Life snow has always been their for her just has Luke has (Snow = Luke)
When I saw Lorelai with Davie, i t was so cute she is great with kids and i think she deserves another kid with the love of her life..Luke! And we all know he will make a GREAT dad!
It was kinda weird that Rory got all upset about Lucy and how she hurt her with the whole Marty thing and all..but if i remember right when Rory got the editorship of the Yale Daily News, and Paris got all mad she didnt seam to upset on how much it affected Paris…Rory and Paris have been friends for way longer that Rory and Lucy have..anyway it caught my attention
I started crying when i saw the expression on Lukes face as the judge read the letter from Lorelai..i could tell he knew that things would get better..i just wish Lorelai could have told him that Chris left because i know that he would have rushed over there to comfort her and to talk about the Custody battle in person. It wouls have been nice to have Luke there and to really show his true expression as he did with the letter
I thought the whole Visectomy thing with Sookie and Jackson was Hilarious! it added a funnynes toward the episode. I am glad that Sookie is pregnant again but 3 kids now…O_o thats alot! but i know Sookie always wanted kids. And now that Lorelai and Luke will be together and having baby soon Lorelai’s life will be surrounded with kids. Sookie will need help and plus with Lorelai’s own baby it will be very time consuming
I also started crying as i saw Richard gasping for air at the podium as he was ready to start class. Rory could sence something was wrong and yelled “Someone call 911″ as the show ended. I hope he will be ok..i wonder how Emily will react
I loved this episode because it was more of a tearjerker that funny which i have not seen out of the Gilmore Girls in a while. Once this problem is fixed everything will eventually get better for everyone
I cant wait until next week! i …just…cant wait!
Now that all the players are jockying themselves in position for a bigger slice of the pie – we all know that Lauren G makes $50K per episode/has a production co. Got Game under the CW banner/made “producer”, et. cetera. Wouldn’t it be interesting to know what the others make per episode? Ed Herrmann is an outstanding performer with Emmys/Tonys under his belt, as is Kelly Bishop – anyone out there who can answer?
Through the wonders of closed captioning (plus repeated viewings of the scene in question), I can attest that Rory was going TRAY Sledding with Lucy; using a cafeteria tray as a sled. Now perhaps they would run into a tree . . . .
My opinion all along has been that Rosenthal would put his own spin on Gilmore Girls to bring it up to snuff and he is doing a stellar job.
Lauren Graham is a good business woman with, probably, a spectacular agent, so she continues to blossom in that Business called Show. The women does not have a Masters Degree for nothing.
The storyline is getting too interesting to quit now and I sure would like to see more of Miss Patty/Babette/Taylor/Kirk and the whole band of merry men and women.
can’t wait to see this episode!!
and next week episode!
can’t wait!
i loved last week’s episode more too, but i love you much more info we got from this one.
as much as i don’t like christopher and lorelai together, i actually felt bad for the guy. he truly thought that him and lorelai finally had their time. i never though of him to be so sincery about their marriage and his feelings for her (he’s always been such a big flake in the past).
luke and anna’s scenes were awesome, i love seeing a different side of luke, and the expression he had on his face when the judge was reading lorelai’s letter.. heart melting!!
sookie and paris were good comic relief during this episode. and we actually got to see the nice caring paris again.
can’t wait till next week!
