Gilmore Girls to end after one more season?

CNN‘s article on the Gilmore Girls offers us some potential hints about the future of the show – and perhaps when it might come to an end.

The show’s creators, the Palladinos, are "undecided" about whether or not they will even be involved after this season is over. As writers and close observers of the show’s creation, this could ultimately change what we know of as the Gilmore Girls.

Since they are undecided, they are planning not only for the big ending to this season (the ‘wedding’, the possible ‘no wedding’ and perhaps a surprise on who will wed), and also for the show to run next season without their aid. Perhaps outlining plots, etc.

Aside from the writers, Lauren Graham is getting to the point of wanting to end the show. Although she loves it, she says the workload is just too high.

"Getting the language perfect requires a number of takes that you might not have on another show," she explained. "It’s just a lot of work — 13, 14 hours door to door. I’ve missed weddings, I’ve missed babies being born. I’m not complaining, because of what it has brought me, but I would be ready for a different balance."

The last factor that could decide the fate of our beloved Gilmore Girls is the network itself. Given that 7th Heaven was just cancelled after 10 years – as the most popular show ahead of Gilmore Girls – the cost to make these shows could outweigh the desire to keep them.

Despite that, Sherman-Palladino has told the network the show could, like 7th Heaven, make at least 10 years. It’s a family show with a cast never to be duplicated again – and we love it.

I truly hope it stays on for a few more years. We’ll have to see.

Absolutely! Its needs to go on for atleast four more seasons. I think hitting 10 seasons would be a milestone for the show. But very unlikely…so atleast one more season would be good.

I have watched the show since it aired in October 2000. I have watched it ever since then. I LOVE IT! I want it to continue on with many more seasons. We need to see Lorelai marry Luke, have a kid together, see Rory get married to Logan, Jess or Dean, We need to see them all have Friday night dinner at the grandparents, and so much more. Keep up with the seasons. PLEASE!!!!
