I have great news for Christina Aguilera fans. Christina was recently featured in the book Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Story Behind the Song. If you’ve never read any of the books in the series, they’re all collections of wonderfully touching stories that follow a theme (stories for women, for teens, etc.).
As you may have gathered, this particular book shares the backstory behind a lot of songs that you’ve more than likely heard. In it, Christina Aguilera tells the story behind “Fighter”. Although it’s a song that sounds like a good post-break-up song, it’s actually even more personal than that.
We know from some of her interviews that Christina lived with an abusive father while she was growing up and has struggled to survive and come to terms with that. Creative outlets are one way to deal with rough times and bad experiences and Christina learned that when she was younger.
An excerpt:
I grew up in a very chaotic and abusive home where I didn’t feel very safe. I started writing music, both melodies and lyrics, when I was 15. In retrospect, I realize I used it as a release, a therapeutic outlet. It was the way I found my voice. I connected with the music and escaped from my home life. In school, I was picked on and alienated because of my passion for music. So I harbored a little personal pain but the seemingly negative things made me smarter and stronger. I took notice early of the people all around me in the business who were there for the wrong reasons.
I’d love to share more of what Christina has to say about “Fighter” but… well, you’ll just have to get the book for yourself and read it. I own a copy and I really enjoyed reading not only Christina’s story but so many others as well.
Here’s the lucky part. Thanks to the book’s awesome publicist, I have THREE copies of Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Story Behind the Music to give away to readers here at Aguilera Buff!

My favorite Christina Aguilera song is ‘Understand’ from Back to Basics!
<3
I would really love a copy of this book! Although “fighter” is one of my faves, my favorite christina song would have to be off of back to basics, “understand”.
Ooh my fave song at the moment is Christina’s version of “Silent Night” ^_^.
Even though Christina has some pretty amazing songs underneath her belt, I would have to choose “I WILL BE” as my favorite song, because in the song she sings about having to go through some pretty dark times in her life but what kept her going was the thought of being able to show those that thought she wouldn’t be able to get through them alone otherwise.
I love Fighter. i can relate personally to the back story of it so well. I love her. she inspires me.
I think that all of Christina Aguilera’s songs are amazing but my favorite song would have to be “We’re a Miracle” from Pokemon: the First Movie.
i would love this book christina’s my hero her music helps me through alot my favorite song is the voice within because when i feel ow her voice pulls me through she is my inspiration
My favorite Christina song is a tie between Walk Away & Loving Me 4 Me! =)
I love so many of her songs but I think my favorite is The Voice Within. I have so many memories with that song.
I love Christina!!!
Happy Holydays
My momentary favorite is “Without You” off Back To Basics, though it is hard to choose an all-time favorite.
I actualy have a few of these books – they are awsome. Im a HUGE Christina fan and support her every move – I would love this book!. My favorite Christina song is “Walk Away – Stripped album” when I let people hear this song they fall in love. I can relate to that song multiple times in my life I love the pain she makes you feel when she sings it.
I cant pick just one… Anything she has had a hand in writing! So None from the first CD. One I really like is Hello from the mercedes benz commercial. I also LOVE STILL DIRRTY so good.
I found this books really inspiring !
And specially talking of “Fighter” -my fav CA song-, I grew up in an very abusive environment too, so this song means a lot to me.
But I live in México so don’t take me into account for the contest (=
I absolutly love the fact that she opens up about her music. She is my favorite artist and has been for a while now. My favorite song by Christina is “Walk Away” that song made me feel that I was not alone when that was the only emotion that I could feel. For that I owe her a great deal, she may have very well saved my life. Thank You Christina
Christina Aguilera is my favorite artist! I love everything about her; her look, voice, attitude, fashion sense, etc. My favorite song by Christina Aguilera is “Lovin’ Me 4 Me.” The lyrics really touch my soul, and I hope to find a person who does “love me for me.” Christina Aguilera is such an inspiration! I truly love her.
I’ve read these books all my life. It’s very hard to pick my favorite Christina song. I love them all. I am especially close to “Fighter” and “Hurt”. Out of the two I’d pick “HURT” because it relates to me and my grandmother. She died of cancer and although I knew she loved me and she knew I loved her, we never agreed to disagree and butted heads a lot. I once wrote a blog about it where I thanked Christina for putting my emotions into song. It sucks that she can’t see exactly how much she inspires us with her songs.
My favorite Christina song is Make Wanna Pray, from back to basics
Being a Strong believer in God I was impressed that she pulled off a song like that. And her vocals were amazing, (as always)
i am also Latino and i look up to her cause i also sing. She is a very inspirational person
Te amamos muchisismo Christina!!
My favorite Christina Aguilera song is “Thank You” on ‘Back to basics’ because I’m on it! Winning Christina’s ultimate fan appreciation contest was the best thing to happen to me so far in life. It really got me through a tough time…
O holy night is my favorite song.
My favorite song of Christina’s is “Walk Away”. No matter what I’m going through at the time or how badly I’m feeling, it always puts me in a better mood.
my favourite song by christina is “Beautiful” this is because i dress alternative (goth/punk) and when i started experimenting with alternative fashion at the age of 14, i got picked on alot in public, people who laugh at me, stare and give me rude looks, sometimes when i got home i would go upstairs and cry in my room, so naturally this song touched me personally. Now that im 20 years old the stares and the giggling dont bother me anymore, thats if i even notice it. “beauitful” did help me get through it and influenced me to walk with pride.
My all time favorite song from christina Aguilera is OH MOTHER, my mother was in a abusive relationship and when she finally got out of it i sang her this song in our livng room. This song was to tell her she’s strong and she did it not only for herself but me, this song is not only telling Christina’s story its also telling mine.
