Gleek Tour wrapping up as Glee gets ready to shine on FOX this fall

I finally had the opportunity to open my heart up to the world of Glee yesterday. FOX had aired the pilot episode of its new series Glee in May but at the time I didn’t have time to watch it.

Glee, from executive producer Ryan Murphy, will be returning for all new episodes this fall on FOX on Wednesdays. The premiere will be Wednesday, September 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

A special extended director’s cut of the pilot will air Wednesday, September 2 (8:58 to 10 p.m. ET/PT) with encore episodes airing for three Fridays beginning September 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. So if you haven’t seen the pilot episode of Glee, you still have a couple of opportunities to check it out. Plus, you can watch it online right now at FOX.com

So what’s the story with Glee? Glee is a series that follows an optimistic teacher named Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) who attempts to save McKinley High’s Glee Club while helping a group of underdogs realize their potential. If you are looking for a show for the family to watch, this may be it.

Here’s a look at each main character:

Matthew Williamson is Will Schuester, the teacher who wants to attempt to save the fledging Glee Club at his school. This is the teacher you want to have – the one who truly cares about his students and wants them to reach their potential.

Jessalyn Gilsig stars as Will’s wife Terri Schuester. Right now Terri has Will wrapped around her finger as she tries to get pregnant. She would prefer for her husband work as an accountant instead of fulfilling his dream to work as a teacher. She is more concerned with materialistic things than anything else. They were high school sweethearts.

Jane Lynch stars as the tough cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester who could care less if the school has a Glee Club. Lynch is hilarious and will be a blast to watch in this role.

Jayma Mays stars as teacher Emma Pillsbury, who is a germaphobe and a little quirky. She and Will get along well, and she even volunteers to chaperone Glee Club events. I think she has a secret crush on Will.

Lea Michele is Rachel Berry, the self-proclaimed star who has been using MySpace to promote her singing “career.” Rachel is sweet and you do want her to succeed, even though she may have to learn to live with a little bit of failure, and needs to let other people shine as well. She seems to have a crush on fellow student Finn (Cory Monteith) and is not very popular outside of Glee Club.

Amber Riley stars as Mercedes, the girl with a great voice and attitude. Right now she’s singing in the background, but I don’t think it will be long before she pushes her way to the front to steal the show.

Cory Monteith stars as Finn Hudson, the football player with a voice. Will he join Glee Club even though his football friends are against it, and he won’t get any support from his girlfriend, cheerleader Quinn (Dianna Agron). There’s a lot to this character that you will have to see by watching the pilot episode.

Dianna Agron  stars as Quinn Fabray, Finn’s girlfriend. She doesn’t seem to happy that Finn will be spending time with her arch enemy Rachel. I wouldn’t want to get in Quinn’s way.

Kevin McHale plays Artie Abrams, the boy in the wheelchair who can sing and rock on guitar. I wouldn’t put this kid in a “box” because I think he has a lot to offer.

Chris Colfer stars as Kurt Hummel, the boy with the soprano voice.

Honestly, I don’t remember much about Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) in the pilot. She is one of the Glee Club members, so hopefully we will learn more about her in future episodes.

Mark Salling stars as Puck, one of Finn’s football friends, or at least they are in the beginning. Puck has a big problem with Finn being in Glee Club.

I believe Glee will be the hit everyone is expecting it to be this fall – especially with the show scheduled to follow American Idol. You can’t beat that kind of lead in. Watching the pilot, I could see several scenarios with several of the characters – there are lots of roads to take.

“The Gleek Tour”

The cast of Glee has hit the road this summer in search of “Gleeks” at malls around the country. Cast members Cory Monteith, Lea Michele, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Jenna Ushkowitz, Kevin McHale, Dianna Agron and Mark Salling have made appearances exclusively at Hot Topic stores in select cities across the country to sign autographs, hold Q&A sessions and give fans a sneak peek at the new season of Glee.

“The Gleek Tour” will finish up this week stopping at the Houston Galleria mall today, the Dallas Galleria mall on Wednesday, Park Meadows mall in Denver on Thursday and Hollywood & Highland mall in Los Angeles on Friday.
