I’ll admit it – I’m terrible about using coupons. I enjoy getting them, I even clip them out sometimes, but they end up being forgotten in my purse or husband’s wallet and that’s the end of it. I think this is a habit I’m going to have to break since gas and grocery prices continue to rise. With the cost of living skyrocketing, clipping coupons can be an easy way to make life a bit more affordable.
Good Morning America offered some excellent tips for maximizing the use of coupons along with the advice that planning your shopping list thoroughly each week is key to saving the most on groceries. Check out these other helpful hints:
Shortcuts.com – The program launched in February 2008 and currently serves Kroger-owned retailers including Kroger, Ralphs, Smiths, King Soopers, Frys and Dillons. Signing up at either Kroger.com or Shortcuts.com allows you to select coupon offers from manufacturers (you have to enter your store discount card number first). The cool part? The coupon details are added directly to your card so that, next time you go shopping, the discount information is instantly applied!
P&G eSAVER – There is no stand-alone site for this program which is also offered through Kroger stores (sign up on Kroger.com) The eSAVER program works like Shortcuts but features coupon offers from Procter & Gamble.
More after the jump!
Blogs & Free Web sites – Free sites and blogs are great resources for finding the best grocery coupon deals at your stores each week. Some recommended sites include www.couponmom.com, www.moneysavingmom.com and www.hotcouponworld.com.
Loyalty Card Promotions – If you shop at a store that has a loyalty card, you will definitely want to get one to save money easily. Not only will the card give you discounts on sale items, but it will also generate register coupons for items you purchase.
Coupons On Packages – One of the most common ways manufacturers distribute grocery coupons is by attaching them to their product’s package. These coupons have the highest redemption rate of any grocery coupon because it’s easy to take them off the package and hand them to the cashier.
Print Grocery Coupons – Today there are dozens of printable grocery coupons available on free sites. You can print over $100 worth of name brand coupons from sites like www.eversave.com and www.coupons.com. After making your weekly shopping list check these sites to see if coupons are available for the items you need.
