Gossip Girl episode 2.09, "There Might Be Blood" recap

Gossip Girl “There Might Be Blood,” Episode 2.09

Airdate: Monday, November 3

Little J takes a bold chance in her career while Blair sees her chance at getting in Yale resting in the hands of a girl she babysits on the newest episode of Gossip Girl Monday.

On the last episode of Gossip Girl (Pret-A-Poor Jenny), Little J (Taylor Momsen) was getting a little hot and heavy with Nate (Chace Crawford). But now it’s been a week and Nate’s pretending nothing happened.

This confuses Jenny, who is preparing for her fashion show with Agnes (guest star Willa Holland). Agnes tells her she needs to make the next move with Nate if she wants his amnesia to go away.

Nate and Dan (Penn Badgley) still have their bromance. The Yale girl Jordan texts Dan that she’s talked to three professors about his writing (it doesn’t sound promising for Dan). Dan tells Nate he’s worried no one is interested in his writing. Wondering what Jenny and Agnes have been up to, Dan asks Nate to talk to Jenny. Dan has no clue about Jenny and Nate’s kiss.

While visiting the rich wife of a Yale donor who is in town for a visit, the woman is more than impressed with Serena (Blake Lively) but could care less that Blair (Leighton Meester) is even in the room. Serena tries to help Blair get her foot in the door by offering for Blair to take her 15-year-old daughter Emma (guest star Stella Maeve) to the movies.

But Emma has a different plan. She wants to lose her virginity before her friend Muffy and has been reading up on Gossip Girl.

She knows Blair can get her into the spots she wants to go. Plus, she has money and a fake ID. Blair and Serena devise a plan to make Emma think she’s going to a cool place to meet guys, and even let her borrow a dress.

Serena runs into Aaron (John Patrick Amedori) in the courtyard, and just when it looks like they’ll make a breakthrough, a girl runs up to him, which scares Serena off.

Dan talks up Nate to Vanessa (Jessica Szohr), but she really doesn’t want to hear it because Nate broke her heart. Dan says he’s a good guy, but Vanessa thinks Dan can’t see what Nate is really like.

When Emma realizes Blair and Serena plan to take her to a club where there won’t be any hot guys — just old people — Emma connives Chuck (Ed Westwick) into taking her for a ride — but not before Chuck passes on a licorice ring to Serena that Aaron left via the concierge. In the limo, Emma hits on Chuck, but surprise, surprise, the Womanizer doesn’t go for the jail bait.

While Serena and Blair are panicking that Chuck has already deflowered the virgin — even putting an APB on Chuck on Gossip Girl, Chuck returns to the apartment to help them find Emma. After he turned her down, he said Emma jumped into a cab.

Blair can’t believe that Chuck chose not to have sex with the willing Emma — knowing the limo is his specialty from personal experience. Chuck tells her the back of the limo is sacred to him. Hmm? This is about the all of the Chuck-Blair dialogue for the night, so the previews were kinda misleading. Chuck does continue to help Blair, but there’s really no drama involved between the two of them.

When Nate learns that Jenny and Agnes are about to leave for their guerilla fashion show, he at first tries to stop them. Jenny tells him that if he cares he will come with him. He offers to drive the van.

Dan, Vanessa and Rufus (Matthew Settle) run after the van to no avail. Rufus is totally confused about what’s going on with Jenny and what she’s up to. Did I mention he’s a little pissed?

When Jenny, Agnes and Nate arrive at The Palace, Nate is not sure why they are there. Turns out that Jenny plans to hold her guerilla fashion show at The Palace, where the New York Philanthropic Society is holding its annual gala. Nate says he’s not a fashion expert, but he doesn’t understand why she’s planning to do her show during an event his mother would usually attend. Jenny says because they are the Fortune 500 people and will have lots of press. Jenny says it would mean a lot to her if Nate would stay (she even brought him a suit).

Through the Gossip Girl alert, Blair, Chuck and Serena are able to find Emma at a downtown bar. She’s attempting to leave the bar with this dude named Serge. When Serena distracts Blair, Emma runs off with her bar guy.

After Jenny gets into The Palace she sees that the New York Philanthropic Society’s gala is going to honor Bart and Lily Bass, which freaks her out. Then she runs into Lily. Nate comes to the rescue saying he came in place of his mother and he brought Jenny with him.

At this point, Jenny is nervous, even shaking. Nate is still wondering if it’s a good idea to crash the gala, but Jenny says this is her only chance. And just when she least expects it, Nate kisses her again. The only problem is a tween in the crowd takes a picture and posts it on Gossip Girl. Jenny is surprised but he tells her he doesn’t regret last week. Whatever she decides, he will be with her.

Knowing that if her mother finds out how Emma has been bar-hopping, Blair lashes out at Serena for getting her in the situation in the first place of babysitting. Serena lashes back that she wouldn’t have any chances without her. Blair ups the ante by making fun of Serena’s celebrity status. “Miss V your pillows are being fluffed in the VIP section.”

Just when Blair is about to go postal on Serena, Chuck comes up saying he’s found not Emma, but her mother. And she’s having a cozy rendezvous with someone other than her husband. Oh, Blair is all over that and snaps a photo that she can use to seal her fate at Yale. Emma’s mom is too wrapped up in her affair to notice.

Back at the fashion show, Agnes is preparing the models. But at the Humphrey residence, Rufus is pacing along with Dan and Vanessa over Jenny’s whereabouts. Dan gets the surprise of a lifetime when he goes to Gossip Girl and finds a picture of Jenny and Nate kissing. This is like a slap in the face to Dan because he knew nothing of their relationship — not that they have much of one. Dan closes the laptop before Rufus or Vanessa can see. But now Dan knows where they are — The Palace.

When Rufus learns that Jenny is with Nate, he feels better, but Dan says don’t be so sure. His bromance with Nate is apparently over. Vanessa doesn’t understand while Dan is suddenly flip-flopping on Nate, who he called a great guy earlier. Now in the cab on the way to The Palace, Rufus grows impatient with the driver and throws him $1. I don’t think the cab driver was impressed.

Arriving at The Palace, Rufus, Dan and Vanessa split up to find Jenny. Rufus comes face to face with Bart and Lily, announcing he’s only here to retrieve his daughter. Bart doesn’t look pleased, but Lily tells him she didn’t invite him.

Meanwhile, Serena tries to get Blair to not use the information she has against Emma’s mom. Blair says she’s holding a golden ticket and doesn’t plan to give it up. Serena wants Blair to find Emma first, and finally Blair agrees to get “Little Red Riding Hood from the big, bad wolf.” But once she finds Emma, she says its “Bulldog, bulldog, bulldog, Ra, Ra, Ra!” Blair is so funny!

Serena heads to the gala (a little gaga over Aaron’s licorice ring) while Chuck says he has an idea on how to protect Emma. Chuck gets a fake post “Muffy‘s Muff Gets Stuffed” on Gossip Girl to make Emma think her friend lost her virginity first.

At The Palace, Dan slams Nate up against the wall letting him know it’s not okay for him to be seeing his 15-year-old sister behind his back, and while a guest in their home. Nate tries to explain, but Dan throws up his past with the Duchess that he learned from Vanessa. Nate tells him he has no right to judge. Dan tells him to pack up his stuff and get out.

Chuck and Blair show up at Serge’s apartment just in time to save Emma’s virginity (wonder how they found the address?) when they show her Gossip Girl. With the Muffy news, Emma chooses to leave with her virginity intact, while Chuck and Blair make snarky remarks about Serge.

Blair offers Emma a little advice before returning home — save her virginity for someone she truly loves. Emma asks her if she waited for someone she loved. A thoughtful and teary-eyed Blair says yes.

Blair advises Emma to try to talk to her mother instead of acting out in the future. Finally after a whole night, Blair and Emma seem to understand each other.

But upstairs, Emma’s mother is ballistic when she sees her daughter is all dressed up — a little too dressy for the movies. Throwing a fit that Blair corrupted her daughter, she tells Blair that she’s not Yale material.

Blair considers pulling out her golden ticket photo, but instead, OMFG, takes the high road. Obviously from experience, she tells the mother to spend more time with her daughter.

On the way to the gala, Serena calls Aaron to hear a message on his phone apologizing to her. Just when the butterflies are starting to swirl, a girl picks up the phone, which throws Serena off course again.

At The Palace, Jenny begs Nate not to leave even though Dan wants his head on a platter.

The lights go out and the models take over the gala while throwing flyers, Polaroids and business cards into the crowd promoting Little J’s designs. The models trample tables and break wine glasses, but seem to win the audience over with their guerilla fashion show. Jenny’s bubbling with excitement, and throws herself into Nate’s arms for a kiss. Unfortunately, Vanessa sees and takes off. The models, including Agnes, are escorted out by security.

Furious, Rufus waits outside for Jenny to emerge. Lily tries to calm him down saying the show was a surprise but good, but Rufus doesn’t want to hear anything. All he sees is Jenny’s total disregard for rules and respect. When Jenny faces him, Rufus tells her he’s never been more disappointed with her.

Rufus says she won’t get away with it this time and calls a police officer over, telling him that Jenny was the one responsible for disrupting the show.

Before the police officer can book Jenny, Lily steps in and says the gala was in her and her husband’s honor and they will not be pressing charges, especially since Bart owns the building. Rufus seems enraged at this, but Lily tells him she’s doing him a favor in the long run.

This has had a different effect on Dan, who has been struggling the last few days over the disappointment of not getting any recommendation letters from the Yale professors. He’s been playing it safe, but sees that Jenny is getting everything she wants by taking risks.

In the morning, Dan is ready to take a chance. He prepares his story about Chuck Bass. Rufus isn’t keen on the idea, thinking now he’s going to have to add Dan to his worry list. Dan says Rufus has bigger problems than him — telling him to check out Jennys’ room.

Rufus is floored by emotions when he finds Jenny’s room is empty.

While Serena tries to comfort Blair over the possibility of not getting into her dream university Yale, Blair gets a surprise call from the Dean. It appears that Emma has put in a good word for her and she’s now in at Yale. Emma told the Dean that Blair was the one person she would most want to have dinner with (the question Serena and Blair were asked during the New Haven Can Wait episode).

Aaron visits Serena and tries to get past their misunderstandings, wanting to take her to breakfast. Serena seems willing to give him a chance.

As the show ends, we see Jenny headed down the street with her belongings. Dan mails an envelope with the Chuck Bass story in it. And Nate mails a letter addressed to Jenny.

P.S. Sorry about the delay in this post. Due to a storm, I didn’t get to watch Gossip Girl until Tuesday.
