Leave it to Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf) to turn possibly negative publicity into something positive.
Meester, 22, graces the cover of Us Weekly’s latest edition giving her side of the story about being born in a halfway house to a mother who was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for smuggling marijuana.
According to the Us Weekly report, her mom Connie gave birth at age 29 to Leighton while she was just beginning her sentence. Her dad, Doug, also served time for the smuggling operation.
But things are a lot different today. Her dad works in construction and her mom is a screenwriter (though they are not together anymore).
Everything her parents did questionable occurred before she was born — way in their past. Meester says she’s thankful for where she is today and says her mom has always been there for her.
