So, we’re supposed to meet Serena’s grandmother this week. As you know, I was hoping that it would be Lauren Bacall… But it’s not.
There have been a few other casting miscues along the way this season…
We were introduced to Blair’s dad last week. John Shea is a great character actor but he’s just not Blair’s dad in my mind. I’m thinking more along the lines of Ted from Queer Eye – I mean, if you’re going to make him a foodie.
And while I think Taylor Momsen is adorable, she’s so not Jenny from the books. I was thinking more Alia Shawkat from Arrested Development.
The worst casting still is, in my opinion, Vanessa. Jessica Szohr just isn’t edgy enough to be Vanessa. I thought that someone like Thora Birch would have been a much cooler choice.
And don’t get me started on Susan Misner as Alison. Yawn.
Great choices?
Definitely Leighton Meester as Blair. To a tee. She completely has Blair’s angsty quest for perfection while remaining an ice queen thing going on.
Also Chace Crawford as Nate Archibald. He does the lost boy act just great. Believe it or not, Penn Badgley auditioned for this role first!
Ed Westwick does an awesome job as Chuck. We all want to hate him… but can’t.
Matthew Settle is dreamy (yes, I said dreamy, and I meant it) as Rufus. And Margaret Colin as Blair’s mom is superb (the recasting from the first episode was a wise move).
What do you think so far of the casting choices on the show? Who’s a hit… and who’s a miss?
I think your comments were pretty good, I hate allison as serena´s mom, should be cooler!!! I think blair´s mom is fantastic!! and dad I did like.
NAte is kind of boring, but chuck is fabulous.
Definitely agree with your comments, except I don’t mind Jenny. I think Taylor Momsen does a good job. All the main characters have been casted extremely well, I’d say.
I think that Serena, Blair, Dan, Jenny and Chuck were all cast perfectly, but Chace Crawford as Nate is just not doing it for me. Although, he has grown on me more since the beginning.
Vanessa also kinda sucks, I agree. I think Jessica Szohr is good, but I totally agree that she is not edgy enough. And her character right now kind of annoys me, all she does is “accidentally” start trouble between Serena and Dan (whom i love).
Leighton Meester is absolutely perfect as Blair. And I can think of no one who could do Serena as well as Blake Lively.
Stephanie – I think Taylor Momsen is doing a great job in the role, she just wasn’t what I had in mind. The character in the book was sooo different – and not just the big boobs.
C – Chace Crawford kind of annoyed me as Nate in the beginning. But he grew on me, too. I think it’s very much the character. I kind of felt in the beginning like he was very out of place – when he clearly shouldn’t be – and I thought that Chace’s kind of aloof behavior didn’t make sense. And now I get it. He seems very lost. And that’s in keeping with Nate’s personality.
I love love loveee Blair, but i dislike the girl who plays Serena. It just seems like shes trying so hard but doesnt quite get the vibe right. I always thought Serena should have looked a bit more delicate. She is the biggest character flaw to me.

I have a thing for Matthew Settle too!is the biggest reason that I watch the show, even though I think is excelent, I started watching it and I was thinking, DAMN!Dan’s father is hotter than anyone of the young boys. So sad that he is really unknown and doesn’t get much credit!his acting in Gossip Girl is superb!!love him!
