Gossip Girl spinoff update

Just when we started to get excited about the possibility of a Gossip Girl spinoff, the plug gets pulled, well kinda.

CW entertainment president Dawn Ostroff told The Hollywood Reporter last week that it was considering a Gossip Girl spinoff, though nothing had been finalized.

That sparked major buzz as many in the entertainment industry and blogosphere talked up the idea.

But when Star magazine reported yesterday that the spinoff would focus on a young Lily and Rufus, Gossip Girl’s producers and Warner Bros. balked, according to Watch with Kristin.

"Contrary to the rumors and false reports breaking in the tabloids, there is no approved concept and/or confirmation of a Gossip Girl spinoff at this time."

As Kristen reported, she had already covered in her gossip column that a young Rufus and Lily webisode idea was a possibility, but executive producer Josh Schwartz told her that the idea was scrapped instead for upcoming Verizon-sponsored webisodes with our favorite maid — Dorota!

So I guess the key to the  Gossip Girl spinoff statement is "at this time." Everything can change. Is it still a possiblity? I’m sure. Will it happen? Who knows.
