I don’t know about you guys, but the resemblance is a little more striking than I anticipated. The Gossip Girl promo looks so much like a Gilmore Girls promo!
It’s like Rory & Lane with another friend. And more accessories.
I am sure a lot of it is intentional. As I said before, The CW is hoping that Gossip Girl hits the same niche as Gilmore Girls did. Originally, it was actually supposed to be a movie written by Amy Sherman-Palladino and starring Lindsay Lohan. When that fell through, they made it into a series.

everythings trying to be like gilmore girls these days. atleast thats what it seems like. maybe thats just because i can relate almost anything to it. but jeez, if the network is so desperate to have a show like gilmore girls, they should of extended ASPs contract in season 6 so we’d have a season 8.

I think the CW is just trying to play on the same fans, not the ideas. I’ve never read any of gossip girl books but I did wiki them and I’m sorry but it’s crap. I agree with Kat, the gossip girls are NOTHING like the Gilmore Girls. I don’t think gossip girls will be a family friendly either. (A bunch of high school kids being horrible in every way possible) Gilmore girls on the other handle was (please forgive me now for what I’m about to say) like Harry Potter, only in the sense that it grew with it’s fan fallowing. I felt like I grew up with both. Therefor the fans feel for involved, part of there life. Everyone can relate to a gilmore character in one way or another.

I just have to say that I agree with you so much, Jen. I grew up with Gilmore Girls too.. and I had always something to look forward to: a new episode, a new season. When i was smaller, I actually cryed if someone else was going to watch something else. (it didn’t last long, since they figured out pretty fast how much if meant to me) All I’m trying to say is BRING BACK A NEW SEASON!!! PLEASE…

Nothing replaces Gilmore Girls!!! The Gossip Girls picture totally reminds me of Gilmore Girls. The coffee addiction, Korean friend, and uniforms are all similar. I’m defiantly not watching Gossip Girls. Sounds pointless to me. I don’t like shows about spoiled people.

Gossip Girl IS THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE OF GILMORE GIRLS. Don’t flatter your show. Yes, they share the intials GG. They share the Girls as their second word. But they are nothing alike.
Yes. There is a private school involved but in NO WAY is Gossip Girl even COMPARABLE to Gilmore Girls.
Gilmore Girls is based on a cozy, tight-knit town called STARS HOLLOW. Revolving around a mother/daughter relationship.
Gossip Girl is based on Upper New York – Manhattan’s elite, rich girls. Gossip. Backstabbing. Etc.
The Asian girl isn’t even a main character, she’s just a little friend. And Blair is NOTHING like Rory AT ALL.

I will be more disappointed in the CW if Gossip Girls is anywhere near Gilmore Girls. They are trying to keep the Gilmore Girls viewers, I dont know about you guys but Gilmore Girls will be a tough act to follow.

gilmore girls was a one of a kind show, gossip girl is based on the series by cecily von zieger or something like that! so technically they couldnt name it something else and it wont be replacing gg

what the heck, obviously they both attend boarding school so their gonna have some what of the sam uniforms, gosh ! and gossip girl is gonna be way better that gilmore girls. Gilmore girls is so boring and slow while gossip girl is drama packed. So quit complaining cause obviously gossip girl is gonna win!!!!

Lill and Sherly, we get it you’re not fans.
First of all (Sherly), Rory never went to a “BOARDING SCHOOL”, Chilton was a prep school.
Second Gilmore Girls is not “BORING AND SLOW” apparently you have not watched the show (or enough of them). Gilmore Girls is very upbeat and full of what I’m sure most people will say “real life” drama. I’m sorry but “fast pace rollercoaster soap opera” drama gets old quick. Gossip Girls is going to be a soap opera for teens. I’m putting it in the same category as Dawnson Creek, 90210, Melrose Place, and Party of Five. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying they were bad shows or anything like that (and I’m not saying that Gossip Girls won’t be a good show), what I am saying is they are nothing like Gilmore Girls. Gilmore Girls appeals to a larger demographic than I believe Gossip Girls will or any of these other shows did.
Finally, (Lill) if you understood, most fans are just comparing the “physical” resemblances of the characters, and not the shows content. The fact is they are very “COMPARABLE” in that sense.
Oh yeah and yes we can “FLATTER OUR SHOW”, it’s part of being a real fan!

Katy & Isabel (in Gossip Girl picture, next to Blair – who’s in the middle) are more like louise and madeline. In one of the first episodes paris, louise and madeline are standing on the stairs, just trying to impress rory. I think that would be more alike. But the uniform is almost the same! Soooo freaky.

Well, I agree…at the 1st look it really seems like Rory and Lane + an other girl standing there. But it’s really not a copy. I read the first 2 books of Gossip girl and it’s really not the same! You’ll see when the show’s up on TV.

Gossip Girl will be nothing like Gilmore Girls, Sure the picture may seem like it is copying the show, but they are two completely different shows! Have any of you guys read the Gossip Girl books??
