If you’re worried that Izzie will disappear into the Parking Lot of Doom and never be seen or heard from again, relax: She’s coming back. While her hiatus from the show will stretch a few (supposedly five) episodes, she will still appear in one episode during November sweeps. And there’s some casting news to back it all up.
Joel Grey has been cast as Izzie’s old high school teacher who appears suddenly in need of her help. This teacher was apparently a very important part of Izzie’s life and was somone who motivated her to aspire to greater heights. Of the character, Shonda Rhimes states, “He was the teacher who convinced Izzie she was more than a girl from the trailer park.”
In addition, we may be seeing more of Izzie’s mother (played by Sharon Lawrence). While there’s no confirmation that she’ll be back, Rhimes has stated that they’d love to have her return to the set.
So worry not, Izzie fans. Katherine Heigl’s coming back.
