Well, the day is upon us. The two-hour season finale of Grey’s Anatomy is only a few hours away. Are you excited? Are you bouncing from anticipation? I know I am!
I’m opening up a discussion thread so we can funnel all of our excitement about tonight’s episode into an easy to find place.
Last week I polled the Grey’s Anatomy News community to see who you thought the lucky couple would be partaking in the “major” and “unexpected” kiss we’ve been promised. Despite the comments stating that no way would it be Meredith and Derek it does seem like a vast majority of you do think MerDer will be it. Now, no doubt they’ll be locking lips in tonight’s episode, but are they really the major and unexpected kiss? Guess we’ll find out!
I’ll be posting a recap of the episode this weekend, so for those of you with no access to the episode check back here for the play-by-play. But of course do pass by after the episode to discuss the events of the finale; the good, the bad, the shocking … or perhaps the disappointing.

and i bet a million dollars that AVA/REBECCA has one of those brain tumors MerDer is working on (she made up a pregnancy!!) and will have to have surgery. out of worrying about ava, ALEX WILL KISS IZZIE. MerDer will save Ava, open the champagne, and get their love party started again!!
Does anyone know the name of the actress who played the girl with the brain tumor?
Who plays the girl with the tumor? I know I’ve seen her in something else i just can’t find her name anywhere!

Oh, and clifthanger and pregnancy are soooo not a good mix! I will probably be pushing my baby out when we’ll learn what he wanted to show her.
GOOD POINTS:

-George getting to retake his test

-Ava finally getting the help she needs
-Alex letting go, opening up and kissing Izzie

Bad Points:
-WHERE WAS THE UNEXPECTED KISS?!
-too many and too often commercials
-There weren’t enough shots of the Hallie kiss
-The dumb therapy metaphors
-It’s over / it wasn’t 6 hours longer <3
-Never found out if Miranda’s husband would be waiting there for her…should we assume?
-Stupid candle thing with Mer….she would NEVER do all of that.
all in all, i cried so hard i couldn’t breathe, but not their best season finale.

oh, and its not america ferarra, but i’ve totally seen this girl before!!! her voice…
OMG, just finished watching…it was beautiful. I was stunned, excited, proud…and terrified. I would have been left on such a high had the season ended with Meredith and Derek kissing. BUT HE decides to leave and clear his conscience?!?!?
The first and only thing that came to my mind is, he’s either: (1) going to get into a car accident/shot/drown/whatever else and be mortally wounded, thereby get amnesia…or…(2) die!
This is just cruel giving us all hope then leaving it at him leaving her? Call me pessimistic, but, wow…anyone else have a bad feeling about this?
I agree about the girl with the brain tumor. I knew I had seen her somewhere and couldn’t get that voice out of my head. So, here’s what I think…it totally sounds like the little girl who played Michelle’s best friend Denise on Full House. And if you look at her face, I think there is a resemblance. Does anyone agree or know who the girl is?
sorry, I made a mistake. I’m french, so there are things that I don’t always get right away. A friend told me what he said. the end is still too cliffhangy for my poor hormones.

shonda has ripped my heart out too many times to believe that something isn’t going to go wrong – i’m having season 2 flashbacks to when he told meredith he was going to sign the papers – i’ve just rewatched the last scene 3 times (thank god for DVR) and i’m terrified – how the hell are we supposed to wait 4 months for more when they leave us with that – i’m happy but i’m shrieking at my tv – i need more and i need more now!
The girl with the brain tumors name is Jurnee Smollett, and yes she is the girl from Full House.
I think they are together for real, after four seasons, enough is enough already.

i heard that one of the main characters is going to be killed off next season. i’m thinking after watching tonights episode that it will be Derek.

They could not kill Derek, the show would jump shark and be done.

Not the best finale and way too many interruptions- I agree- Why is Meredith so complicated it- who hasnt had a rough life LOL but geez anyhow I guess there is a purpose- I think the Callie kiss thing was thrown on there – I never saw it coming- I hope McDreamy makes it back- no way!!

it was a piano based ballad sung by a female. It kind of reminded me of Amy Winehouse. I think i remembr hearing “collide”, and “i love it when”. CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP???
I agree with Jessica. Derek is going to get in a car wreck and will either end up with amneisia or die. Now that Meredith is ready to commit something tragic will happen.

Anyway, the finale was great! Not like what I expected, but that’s one of the things I love about Grey’s.

Kelly…why Mer is so complicated? Trust me I’ve had a rough life in the likes of Meredith, and even worst. She has every right to be complicated and having issues.
i think the finale was AWESOME!! and for the candles not being Meredith like, well in my opinion, the needed something big to show that she has changed, and is making an effort, so the candles were totally right!
I agree that this wasn’t the best finale ever, but given the short season they were working with and the goals they had to accomplish in that time span, it was better than I had really expected. Besides, it’s a nice break from the “will they really let Meredith die?” hanger we’re usually left with.
I could not be happier with the whole Christina storyline. It’s about time she got her groove back and it’s about time she let Hahn know she’s more of a rockstar than Hahn would ever believe.
Kudos to George for standing up for himself.
Thank God the whole Rose thing is over. And I know everyone else is disagreeing with me, but kudos to Derek for going to Rose and clearing his conscience. It’s a new start for him and Meredith, he needs to do this. Last time he didn’t come clean to Meredith or to Addison about what was going on and look at the mess it made. This time, he’s making a clean break and leaving himself 100% free for Meredith. It did tear my heart out to hear him say to her (after the first operation) that after the second operation they were through, that he didn’t want to work with her, see her, or talk to her again.
I can’t seem to find myself too involved in the whole storyline with Richard and Adelle, but surely there’s a greater purpose to it.
Callie and Hahn……I don’t like this storyline. Call me a Conservative Christian if you want (I’ll own up to it), but I also just really like Callie and Mark and want to see something happen with them (besides, Hahn looks a LOT like one of my aunts and it just weirds me out to see her kissing a woman for that reason).
Another person said they hoped nothing came of the George/Lexie peck. I agree because, as they said, that will put Christina as the only one of the female friends that he hasn’t slept with. Lexie is good moral support for George and I appreciate their friendship. I wouldn’t want to see it complicated the way his friendship with Izzie was.
Alex…..AMAZING episode for Alex. Justin Chambers deserves an award for his performance. He had my heart and my tears in every scene. The last scene with Izzie just had me all torn up inside. I could feel what Izzie would be feeling. Trying to figure out how best to handle it without hurting Alex more than he was already hurting. Great scene with those two.
And to end, yes, I know the whole candle thing with Meredith wasn’t “her”, which is why I appreciated it all the more. It’s something she never would have done before. Yet she did it, she showed him she was ready to build a life and a home with him. I think the fact that she did it was her way of showing him that she was ready to put forth an effort and not just coast along and let him carry the relationship.
Great show all around. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
Did anyone catch that quote from Meredith towards the end? When she was trying to get a hold of Derek and she hung up calling him a “stupid brain man”? haha, loved it!

I had the biggest smile on my face when George told the chief how awesome he is. I can’t wait to see what happens with him next season.
And to be quite honest, Merideth and Derek are boring me a little. I am glad they’re back together, though.
Callie and Haun! I lovelovelovelove the idea of them together. I’ve been waiting for them to hook up ever since Addison suggested it.
BLAHH, I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT SEASON.
all – read the greys writers blog at greyswriters.com – shonda (who wrote the finale) talks about the finale and why it ended like it did and it truthfully helped my post-finale freakout do a 180….i’m now fully on board with the way things went
also, abrook – i agree with you about the necessity of having derek clear his conscience….none of their other attempts at this relationship started with them both free – and if this is really going to be the real thing for them, i think that was necessary
shonda said that they would be together so i dont think that Derek will be hurt
i bet next season will just have drama with the house and stuff. they’ve never really been together as a couple for long so it will be an interesting dynamic to the show
I completely agree that Justin Chambers gave the best performance yesterday in the whole 2 hours. I was great…I heard and felt the pain in his voice when he spoke to Izzie, he was awesome. Dear me, all I wanted was to hold him in my arms…
i cant get over how powerful this episode was! im soo happy that Alex confided in Izzie. Katherine Heigl and Justin Chambers should get an award for their intense performances last night…

I HATE Hallie!!!! Totally unexpected, Callie just isn’t ready… there was no build up, ONLY fear/curiosity.
She had her heart broken by George and now the fear of changing/losing her friendship with Hahn could only mess up her head. She needs to try it in a different way with McSteamy.
Last epi was great. Can’t wait for the next season. This is the best scene on the finale.

Derek is not gonna be dead!!! no, patrick said in an interview that dermer are getting married in season 5, in the 30th episode, so the last of the season!!! but i think that she’ll wait for him… and he’s not going to come early… just a supposition!!!!
he isnt going to die, and if he did everything would come tumbling down on us but where did the married part come from? and a season only gets about 23 episodes if not 24 for greys usually =/ so 30 episodes in a season?
Alex….Justine Chambers is what comes to mind on the finale. What an amazing performance and also Katherine Heigl performance is the best i’ve seen for a long time (no more gizziepuke. TTLrd).
Still cannot understand why George , the idiot, is being held up as an excellant doctor because there is nothing on the screen that showed me that. Cannot stand that annoying Lexie…yeah, put idiot George and annoying Lexie together. They fit.
Loved Cristina getting her mojo back. I have to say this…I, growing up in Asia and knowing many Asians,I found the character of Cristina is so right on as an ambitious Asian character. Maybe it is Sandra Yang or maybe it is the writing, Crisitina comes across as an true blue Asian to me, not an Asian American, bred in USA .Wonderful characterization.
Callie and Hahn as lovers…I can take that. Where will this leaves Mark? He is the only one without a love.
