Let’s face it, the relationship most people care about on Grey’s Anatomy is Meredith and McDreamy. The rest are fine so long as Shonda Rhimes keeps the MerDer loving alive. So, in light of that fact, I thought I’d open the floor to discussion about the future of this popular couple.
At the end of season four, we got what we’d been waiting for for entirely too long: a kiss between Meredith and Derek that pointed toward a real future, rather than a few quickies in the on-call room. Of course, this is Grey’s Anatomy so happy endings are not quite in the cards for anyone. There’s got to be something to add drama.
We know that someone will potentially be pregnant in season five. Whether they became pregnant in season four and find out in season five isn’t clear, but we do know that Meredith is a likely suspect and that many of you think she could be the one. What would a pregnancy mean for the MerDer relationship this soon after being reunited? Would Meredith keep the pregnancy a secret, confiding only in Cristina – and possibly Izzie? I could see them dragging that out for a few episodes. Would she battle with the option of getting an abortion without telling Derek? Would she go through with it?
We all know McDreamy would be all for starting a family with Meredith. And while Meredith looks ready to take a step toward marriage, I’m quite certain a pregnancy would send her running in the opposite direction.
Of course, it’s also possible that the pregnancy scoop isn’t even about Meredith, so maybe we won’t have to worry about that storyline putting a damper on MerDer. We know that Kevin McKidd will be joining Seattle Grace as a new doctor. New faces always have the potential to add drama and cause conflict where there otherwise wouldn’t be any. So it’s possible that McKidd’s character could be the source of unforeseen problems for MerDer.
Then again, Shonda Rhimes seems rather happy to finally have Meredith and Derek together, so it’s possible that she’ll save the drama for the other couples and let MerDer bask in the glory of their old-but-new and improved relationship.
So what do you think is in store for Meredith and Derek in season five? Doom and gloom and unexpected drama? Or eternal sunshine and happiness? Perhaps a musical number through Central Park?
Maybe I’ve been watching too much Enchanted …

well in my opinion merder at least at the beginning will stay bright and shiny..that’s the only thing that balance the score you know..and then well has to be problems..every couple have..will be interesting see how they build a house and meredith leaving his mother house to live only with derek..if she is the one pregnant? i dont’ think so..at least not in the beginning..ad she does..i think she’ll freak out a little! I think we’ll have a little more happyness in this season which is great =P i can wait to see what shonda rhimes will show us in september! MERDER is awesome..and all the other charaters..izzie needs a better storyline katherine heigl is amazing..and with the new alex..who knows! george and lexie that should be interesting..callie and hahn..i’m very curious because is something so new and so unexpected..and we cant forget that cristina needs a new love and so does mark =) Can wait to see the new season xD
I don’t think Mer will be pregnant……it’ll be too soon. I think Shonda will make them a healthy couple before adding a child to the mix. (And we know from Season I about those glow in the dark condoms Der uses! )
I highly doubt that Mer is pregnant. She and McDreamy were separated for a while- more than 6 weeks. In that amount of time, she would have already known if she were pregnant, because she would have missed her period. It’s Callie, hands down.
As for what’s in the cards: Shonda said that MerDer is going to go through “regular relationship” stuff. It’ll be a nice change of pace from the “omg, you’re married” and “you can’t commit” attitudes.
I am not sure what will happen but I am all for adding a little drama into the mix. I had read somewhere that Rose may be a stalker – that might make things interesting at first. Of course, I want McDreamy to have no part of it but maybe try to cover it up because he is not sure of what will make Meredith run again.
well..i do think fun to watch their married life..i relly wonder how mere will react tough..
as for pregnant issue…it will be shocking if mer is pregnant…whoever got pregnant..it will be surprising…Shonda really give us a valuable news to wait
hm, well, i’d love to see merder build the house, and i’d say that the season should start where the other one ended… like you see derek come back to meredith at the house of candles.. and him bring a ring back, and him purpose, i’d think that, that would be amazingg!
i also say that you finally towards the end or middle of the season see the house they build
and yeahh, they will hopefullyy be bright and shiny for like 6 episodes, then a problem…
as for mer being pregnant, i am all for it!
but i don’t know if she is the pregnant one..
of course it must be Rose! i’m surprised that no one is thinking about that option!
imt hinking it might be either rose or callie. i hope its callie, if its rose well lets not dwell any further into what might happen to merder =S
hi , I ‘m french so I’m gonna explain what i think as I can …. I think that meredith can’t be pregnant ! who did she sleep with ? I don’t think it’s gonna be izzi either because with the all adoption of her child she can’t give up on an other baby I think . maybe callie , she wanted a baby with george and she slept a lot with mark ..
But I’ would go for rose !! for me mer/der can’t be together happy and healthy at the begening of the season and remember derek left meredith at the end of the episod to talk to rose .. maybe he’s going to come back with news ….

i hope that mer is the one that will be preggers because that would be so cute i think. as for rose being the one thats pregnant shonda rhimes said that it definantly wouldnt be her.
OK – Shonda Rhimes has said emphatically that Rose is NOT pregnant nor will there be any drama prohibiting Der from returning to Mer at the start of season 5. I’m all for some normalcy with MerDer – just a regular relationship working things out and enjoying one another. Shonda – give us bright & shiny for a while!
My bet is on Callie – it would make for an interesting love triangle and after all, she had been wanting a baby with George.
Yes… Derek is not back at the end of the episode. something tells me either he or she will have a problem before they even drink that bottle of champain.
I don’t know about Callie being pregnant… maybe too expected once announced… I am all for Izzie and Alex going serious.

My predictions for season 5
1. Meredith and Derek will probably get married or at least engaged as soon as he dumps rose officially.
2. Callie and Hahn will actually work out, Mark may develop some feelings for Callie. I predict tension between Hahn and Mark and a little jealousy on both sides. Maybe a pregnancy
3. I see Izzie getting pregnant mid-season and her keeping it now tht she older and much more well-off than when she was sixteen. I also see Alex proposing to Izzie by the season finale tht would be one of the finale moments.
4. I see Bailey really happy now tht shes back on good terms with her husband. Maybe some lovin in the on-call room…lol tht would be too much like witnessing your mom and dad making out or something
5. I see christina hooking up with the new doctor
6. George and Lexie have a thing probably nothing serious there better off as friends (maybe with benefits).
7. I see addison coming back to deal with whoevers pregnant. If its callie by mark maybe she’ll regret aborting marks baby now tht she cant have one anymore. If its mer she’ll probably wish it was her having his baby. i dont care i just want addison in the picture for at least one epi..
+ more this is getting too long now
There’s got to be a little drama before all’s well with MERDER… I think something will keep Der from getting back to Mer soon enough and she will despair and get drunk on the champagne while waiting for him out on that piece of land.
Lexie might get pregnant by George…who knows

Or maybe Addison gets pregnant by someone in private practice and they bring her to SG hospital for the birth.
Hopefully it won’t be Rose who’s pregnant, that’d be terrible.
the addison thing would be cool, but in that episode this other side of life it was revealed tht she’s practically barren …”dried up” according to her. Cant wait for greys anatomy (#1) and private practice.
Cant the producers give us like a sneak peak of the new season during the summer even a 30second clip will be fine i just need a little sip you know a quick fix and i’ll be ok till september.
I also have some predictions for season 5.
1. Mer’s ego is not prego guys! That would kill valuable episodes and is EXPECTED. Since Shonda said it the majority of people thinks MerDer will have a tot in nine months. Bleh! But if she does, yay!
2. Callie. Her ego? Possibly preggy. With a fetus. That would cause issues with her and Hahn because it’s Marks. Verrry good twist. I like.
3. Izzie and Alex. Did no one see the,m stop kissing? Izzies eggs are not in a uterus. Plus the whole Alex thing is… ugh! Not cool. So not meant to be. Horny frat guy and compassionate, caring Izzie? No way!
4. Rose! Jeez! When is that chick going to let it go? Hello? Made for Meredith googly eyes from Derek? :p For a nurse, she’s STupid. Plus, is Derek stupid enough to NOT use a condom? Glow in the dark ones
But she’s sticking around to bug the Happy MerDer so we’ll put up with her for a while. As long as she plays niice I’m fine. But her night with Derek is going to make her angry because now he’s dumping her. As much as I hate her, poor Rose.
4. George and Lexie! YAY! I can see them together. I’m so happy for Lexie. And George!!!! It’s great!

Oh myyyy god! Did anyone else see the season 5 preview commercial tonight on abc!? Rose clearly said to Derek “I’m carrying your child.” WHAT!? How much you wanna bet she’s lying to try to make him stay? Conniving little….ahhh. That did NOT make me happy!
sooo obviously greys season 5 has well and truly started. No one preggers so far Meridith And Derek seem happy and Kevin McKid or ‘Military Doctor Owen Hunt’ is hot for Cristina. Izzy is going mental she is seeing Denny and apparently sleeping with his ghost is this her way of grieving or is she going mental? But she is sticking with Alex i like him i love his serious and ass-like character different from other soft gooey guys like George who is a resident now Lexie is trying to get over him and they have some fallout but all is well Mark is totally in love with “little grey’ aka lexie. Callie and Hahn are no more Hahn making a hasty retreat from the show. Hm,, rose is gone What do i want to happen?
I want soem drama between Meridith and Derick i want a new hot guy doctor to come and be a little competition for derek force his hand to propose…
I want a marriage between MerDer possibly pregnancy of Meridith and a miscarriage ? She will go into grieving mode and push him away and Derek will just want to be close to her.. then all will be well…. hard distant relationship for a while then recovery

Love LOVE lOVE! Cristina and Hunt. He’s all dark and twisty has some substance unlike other characters.
I love the idea of lexie and mark … or callie and mark? i prefer L and M though.

you know i always had a little hope for mark and meridith how good would it be if they accidently slept together once?
