Grey's Anatomy "Love/Addiction"

vlcsnap-604393

I just finished rewatching last night’s Grey’s Anatomy episode, 4.02 “Love/Addiction”.

Here are some of my thoughts:

  • I really liked that Burke was there in spirit, as I really hate when shows get rid of characters and then forget all about them. It was nice to have a bit of closure in that department. Plus, Burke’s mom is wonderfully brilliant.
  • The scene where Bailey was asking Meredith for a favor was particularly hilarious to me as Chandra Wilson is ridiculously amazing. Her smacking Alex around and calling him an idiot later was also amusing. I miss that Bailey.
  • Callie pains my heart so much. I just wanted to hug her throughout the entire episode. I really hope they don’t drag the Callie/Izzie/George thing forever because I can’t take much more of it.
  • I really like Lexi and I am curious to see at what point Mer starts to warm up to her. If she ever does, that is. I thought the scene where Meredith explained to Lexi about the difference in their fathers was great.
  • I miss Addison. I haven’t watched Wednesday’s Private Practice yet but it’s on my to-do list for today. It’s not the same, though. I really wish they’d left Addison at Seattle Grace.
  • I like the blooming friendship between McSteamy and McDreamy. I’m glad they seem to be patching things up.
  • Cristina was hilarious and brilliant as always. I’m very amused by the way she still refers to her interns by numbers.

Overall, I thought it was an okay episode. I think this season feels different due to the absence of certain characters and the addition of others and I’m still not used to the dynamic, but I’m optimistic.

What did everyone else think about it?

I agree and feel that the episode was just okay. Something just feels off about all the characters, and their interactions. Im hoping that episodes will be better once the balance is put in place, and all issues are resolved. I hope Grey’s brings back that intensity in the episodes, the way they used to be. Everything feels very slow moving, and story lines just dont seem interesting, and are kinda stupid (it breaks my heart to say that, since im such a fan). I mean, the deer in the first episode, now drug dealers. The actors brought in for for patient scenes arent very good. Not that appealing. That guy who played the babys dad I thought was SO annoying. Granted he was a meth addict, but did we really need meth addicts in the story line to begin with!

I have faith Grey’s will be back to it’s true self!

I have been slightly let down with both episodes this season also. It almost doesn’t keep my attention, whereas last season I would turn my phone off! I am personally sick of Meredith’s family baggage. Get over it already. I hope this season picks up some.

did anyone notice the orange bracelet McDreamy was wearing ? Whats up with that. Everyone needs to hang on . I bet everything will come in to place down the road .

  4. hafsa

The orange bracelet was the one addision (the cancer girl he went to visit at the hospital a month ago) gave him. He promised her he will wear it for one of his episodes.

I liked the episode aside from the Izzie and George storyline. I do not want to see George and Izzie together because I never saw George as the type to cheat on his wife in the first place. And why are the residents giving Callie such a hard time, I know she isn’t Bailey but she hasn;’t done anything to them! I would however like to see s steamy seen between Derek and Meredith and for Meredith to realize that she loves Derek. They need to be a couple again not just S&M. There needs to be more of what we got in seasons 1 and 2. I will keep watching!

overall i love the light feeling of the episode. it’s substantial but still funny. and i agree with the blog writer, please have george’s mind made up. it’s too heartbreaking to see callie trying to be tough as a doctor and chief resident and yet she’s weak due to her marriage insecurity.

cristina is still witty and sarcastic, but i love how she softens and evolves in a graceful manner. mer/der, no comment. it’s an awfully ridiculous college-level relationship. please return derek to his respectable and mature self instead of a pitiful desperate man willing to be treated disrespectfully all in the name of “love”. we have quite a mature audience for GA and keeping their relationship ridiculous will just draw the audience away.

however, the actors of this show continue to amaze me with their great acting. ellen pompeo’s acting has been increasing quite noticeably, and heigl shows she truly deserves the emmy. tr knight and chandra wilson, can never compliment these two enough. there’s always something to be told about theater actors.diahann carroll as mrs. jane burke was amazing. she’s just so stunning and beautiful.

i am rooting for more sloan scenes. his character is intriguing.

  7. Lucy

Great post. I especially agreed with the closure for Burke comment, even though I was on the verge of tears (especially the part where Cristina comes home to an empty place) and frustration. and capulet, i am rooting for more Sloan too!

I liked last night’s episode. Was a little worried after the first one. I hope they get the Izzie/George/Callie thing straightened out soon!!! Can’t stand to see Callie so miserable and can’t see the Izzie/George combo. Hate it. I wish they would make Izzie less of a ditz. She is supposed to be a resident, after all, not some bimbo who is hung up on a kitchen mixer. Maybe she should take some cooking courses and become a chef.
I am glad to see that Meredith seems to have grown up and is showing some maturity! Watched Private Practice and liked it. Didn’t expect to after that stupid pilot. Missed the first one. Anyway, I saw a lot of improvement in GA, hope it continues.

i love it! i think the show is amazing and nothing much has changed except for the fact that burke and addisson arent there any more. the rest of the show is pretty much the same. im SO happy that the old bailey is back to herself though. i wasnt liking the new non-agressive bailey. and the whole callie chief-resident thing, yeah, it’s gotta end. she’s not up for the job. the ending with meredith and derek was priceless though. they belong together and they both know it, they just dont know how to handle it with everything going on. i’m sure they’ll figure it out eventually though. izzie and george need to get over themselves. i liked the prospect of them being a couple in the beginning but now its just getting old. he’s either gonna tell callie that the marriage is over or not. neither of them, izzie or callie, deserve to wait for him to make the “right” decision, or as he would say “follow the right path.”
i really like this season so far, its good in the story line, but for some reason i thought that last season was more captivating.. maybe its the fact that 2 main characters are missing but idk… its still really good and deserves all the press it gets!

  10. Michelle

I loved the scene where Meridith tells Lexie that due to her father leaving at the age of 5, she is not able to be with Derek that loves her so very much. I wish Shonda will show a happy MerDer.
I want Meridith to be so very happy with Derek.
I want to see it. Its the best part of GA. I want to se Mer get some good in her life, from a man that loves her. Why do they keep showing a confused Meridith always? She needs to grow up and be blessed that she has the love of a super good man. There is so much of sadness and misery in life. I want to live thru Mer and Der.

  11. Ashley

i really want mer/der to be together!! mer cant help the way she is!! with what happend LIKE AT THE END OF last season!! at the end especially!! I HOPE GROEGE AND IZZIE STAY/GET TOGETHER!!! BUT I REALLY HOPE THE MER/DER STAY TOGETHER!! THAT WOULD BE THE BEST THING EVER!!!

    I♥Greys ANATOMY!!

  12. joy

will mere and derek live happily ever after?dont think so.that is what makes the show..the turbulence in their relationship

  13. CC

Ive agreed with most of the comments out there. The episode was ok, it was satisfying. I’m glad Grey’s is leaving the whole season 3 “dark and twisty” nonsense. I feel sooo much for Callie! But the whole George-Izzie-Callie storyline sounds really familiar… Mer-Der-Addison anyone? Speakin of Mer-Der, i love them. They now understand each other. From Der’s speech to Mark in the season premiere to Mer’s speech to Lexie, they both realize thier problems. If only they can work through them and be happy! I agree with that Mark Sloane needs more real storylines!

p.s. I LOVE Patrick Dempsey for wearing that orange bracelet like he promised! He truly is McDreamy!!!

  14. Fia

Whatever happened to the Meredith that said “pick me, love me, choose me”?!
and the Meredith that said she was happy and in love… Why can’t she love the “most perfect guy” any more?!

  15. patcat

No more dark and twisty. Happy and light episodes are what the writers promised.

I am happy to finally see some scenes with mer and der together. This is what i’ve waiting for. Too bad their scenes are not very long.

I loved the IZZIE and the deer thing. It is totally her.

  16. Chance

I am really getting tired of meredith. I used to like her, but she is so self-absorbed and selfish. I really like Lexie and actually hope Derek goes in her direction. Derek deserves so much better. The whole S&M thing? Give me a break!

  17. Leah

Greys anatomy is not the same anymore.. Its juts not the same. i used to loveeeeee the show but now i think its so predicatable and not fun.
And whole mer and der thing… come onnnn. you cannot show two peple so in love and then suddenly they are not sure about each other. They need to fix the show and make is much better and fasttt

  18. Jan

I LOVE MEREDITH and Derek together. I hope Derek sticks it out with Meredith until she works through her problems which of course were caused by her family – both her mother and father really did a number on her!

I love the fact that the old Bailey is back. I didn’t care for her last season and I liked the the ‘new residents’ quoted her rules to the new interns. I hope Callie steps down as cheif resident and Bailey gets back where she belongs.

I am not liking the new Callie – she is like a different person. She would never show her emotions in public before. I don’t think George belongs with her—no chemistry.

I really don’t see any chemistry between George and Izzie either except as friends. George and that nurse (forget her name) had more chemistry. (OBTW – where is that nurse?)

I hope all this drama does not hurt the friendship between George and Izzie.

I liked Alex in the first two episodes – he showed some character. I think it would be great if the writer’s explored his family relationships that have been referred to so much in the past seasons and maybe he could help Meredith get past her problems.

I enjoy the friendship between the 5 residents and hope that they continue to grow and develop.

  19. Ty

Yeah, I agree with CHANCE! It is ironic that while the “Grey’s” is named after her character, Meredith is, by far, the worst character on the show. To be honest, I wish that the show’s writers had killed Meredith off last season when the plot presented them with the chance! And I do not think that, in real life, any guy, especially a world-class surgeon like Derrek would stay with Meredith. She is all about herself all of the time! And it is also worth noting that Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith, looks WAY too old to play the part of a young doctor. In fact, she looks too old to play a young ANYTHING!

  20. Merle

I taped the second episode Thursday, and was disappointed again. The thing with Mrs. Burke was awful. It’s difficult to watch Chrisitina being sad over Burke when we all know what happened and that he isn’t coming back. Really cheesy. I did hear Isaiah’s new show Bionic Woman is doing great. Good for him.
Sad to say, but Grey’s has jumped the shark.

  21. mapi

Another one heartbreaking moment for McDreamy!

I was dispointed with Mama Burke..but loved Christina.

“If you have time to stare, you have time to get me coffee so move…move…move”

    Bailey was just perfect…thank you!!!

  22. Genesis

Both episodes have just been OK. I am fine without Meredith with Derek, in fact I prefer them apart. Both, especially Derek, after a divorce need to spread their wings and date other people. I am really feeling the absence of Burke and Addison. They both added so much to the show. Hopefully Bailey will be back in her prime. I miss the Nazi Bailey. Christina has been great so far.

  23. DRose

I was very let down with the first two episodes.
The George and Izzie love thing reminds me of when “Friends” tried to put Joey and Rachel together. Totally out of character. Meredith needs to get over her past. We all have past and move on. The only charater worth watching is Bailey. Please fix my favorte show, before it fades away like ER….and others. I actually felt at times I was watching ER meets FRIENDS. Christina at least seems to be sticking with her character, which was one thing that seemed to stay in line with the show I watched in the past.
Character changes in your character’s reminds us that the show was written by other people…who seem to forget who they created in the first place.

  24. LSW

Just a subtle look on the show, but the look McDreamy gave Cali could be something! I would LOVE to see Cali get her groove back. She’s vulnerable yes, we all are, but the total lack of confidence and insecurities doesn’t play well. Cali doesn’t belong with George, and neither does Izzie. I’ll be once George tells Cali, Izzie won’t be interested anymore! I would LOVE for Cali to be with her equal – whoever that may be, not some whiney dweeb.

  25. lisa

I just love this last episode.i think greys is getting so much better and i totally loved that mer and derek part at the end,but i just wish they could be a happy couple again, but its fine. i love greys anatomy

  26. Fiona Turps

I love meredith and derek together – I hope she gets her act together and realises how important he is, I agree with “Fia” – what did happen to the “pick me, love me” Meredith, I thought Derek was the love her life, can’t she appreciate that?
But their current situation is ok with me, as long as they are together and happy.
Izzie and George – whatever, I’m not really bothered, I’m coming round to it but I still don’t like it, Izzie was so much better with Alex, I wish the two of them could get back together somehow.

Speaking of Alex, please can he remove the beard and cut his hair short again like it was at the beginning of Season 3? He was so hot then. Also I really really miss Addison, especially because I loved her thing with Alex, I was so upset when that ended.

All in all, the beginning of the season can be a bit off – like do you remember after Denny died, Izzie was so out of it I found G.A not amazing then, so we have to wait for them all to settle into the season.

But it’s still Grey’s Anatomy guys, it’s still one of the best programmes out there!

  27. Natalie

    I LOVE MEREDITH and DEREK!!!
They are the best thing about the show!!! I kinda wish they were still in a relationship but i like the way they are now, its kinda like season1 again, which i loved!!
I loved the end of “Love/Addiction” , i was really worried when i thought that Derek was gonna let Mer go but i was so sweet the way he ran after her!!! But i really don’t know why she is so reluctant to let him love her. I mean i know that she has family issues but you wud think that she wud lean on Derek for support rather then push him away!
I know that she loves him but i just hope she realises that before it’s too late!!

  28. Lyny

Meredith knows she is being stupid, she told her sister that she has issues and that it could drive off the man her dreams.

  29. Ty

“Grey’s” has proven why it has been one of TV’s top-rated shows for the past three seasons! The writers have shown that no one should miss Burke and Addison. If anything, their absence has allowed the show to further develop and follow certain storylines. With the number of main characters on the show last season, at times it felt a bit like a soap opera.
I must commend the writers in how flawlessly they were able to explain Burke’s disappearance. In using his mother to both spread her wisdom throughout the hospital and tell that he has resigned himself to avoid Seattle-Grace as a way of moving on, the show was able to give closure to Burke’s character and explain why we will never see him again.
But I do feel that I should mention that Meredith is, by far, the show’s worst character. She has proven time and again that she cares about no one but herself. And what is worse is that her self involvement is not as much self-love as it is self-pitty! Only shrinks should be forced to sit through her therepy sessions which occur every time she is in a scene!
And finally, I am really hoping that things work out for Izzie (she is so hot) and George! And perhaps the show’s writers can take George dumping Cali as a que to write her out of the show.

  30. Chance

Don’t write off Cali and George yet…I have a feeling Cali may be pregnant, which would definitely halt George from saying anything.
We each, in life, have our issues, our own baggage, but I think Meredith uses hers as a crutch as to why she is the way she is. I’m really getting tired of her character. I think Lexie could emerge as more popular than Meredith.

  31. Snow

Meredith needs to get counseling and grow up! No more excuses about her past, I am sick of them! Nothing more was ever said about her near-drowning, what is up with that? Also, why couldn’t they just have brought in a different character for Burke’s character? If the actor had to leave the show, they could have replaced him with “another Dr. Burke”. I also want George and Callie to make it together.

I hope it comes back together, so far I am not very happy.
