So, in case you haven’t heard: Ellen Pompeo’s pregnant. We’re all very happy for her and for her hubby Chris Ivery. Of course, pregnancy in real life generally means a huge headache in the writers’ room. Shonda Rhimes is refusing to answer questions about it yet on twitter, and Michael Ausiello ponders on CNN how the show is going to deal with a potential 3-month maternity leave for their lead actress.
But what about you guys? Do you think the powers that be should write the pregnancy in for Meredith or do you think they should hide it (like they’re doing with Chyler Leigh’s). Is it too soon for a McBaby?

Personally, while I wouldn’t be opposed to Meredith getting pregnant, I’m not sure the timing is right for that storyline yet. I am, however, looking forward to seeing what they come up with and how they deal with it. I’m more worried about the notion of Ellen Pompeo being absent from the show for a long period of time.

Yes there should be a McBaby,hey they did show baliys baby and stuff and marideth is just important they could shoot it now and show it in season 6

I believe it will add to the drama if they make Meredith realize she’s pregnant at such a bad time for George and Izzie. It’s about time they had some McBabies and we can see if Meredith will devote her family over her work because she’d want to do the oposite her mom did.

Meredith being pregnant would make it easy for Ellen Pompeo to go on her maternity leave, but there’s another side to it. The child would then have to be written into the script, but this could be a good thing, as Meredith would surely put her family over her work, as Shannon said, because she wouldn’t want to turn out like her mom. McBabies would add lots to the plot! Wouldn’t there be great drama if the child was sick and had to be operated on by the greatest neuro surgeon in the world, it’s father, McDreamy? Whatever happens, I’m sure it’ll be great, I just hope Ellen Pompeo can return asap, because it won’t be the same without her!

Yes, Meredith should have a baby. Derek had told her in one episode “I want to marry you, I want to have children with you.” And Meredith had this look on her face. I agree with Jeni, that would be very dramatic if she did have to get operated on by Derek. This is probably the best plot ever if the creators decided that it would work!
