We’ve got a few months of speculation to get through before the next season of Grey’s Anatomy rolls around. I imagine that official news regarding who is staying and who is going will be a long way off, and if Shonda & Co. manage to get their way, we might not know anything at all until the season six premiere.
So all we’ve got in the meantime is each other and all of our crazy theories as to what might happen. I’m leaning toward the theory that Izzie survives and George walks into the white light. I don’t have any insider info to go by, so this is mere fan speculation. But I think that Izzie surviving makes the most sense. I say this not because Katherine Heigl said she’d stay with the show, but because storyline wise, I think her surviving is important.
Derek quit medicine because he kept losing patients and couldn’t quite see the point of continuing. Part of the reason he slapped on the scrubs again is because Meredith asked him to save Izzie. And I think that’s a story thread that’s worth seeing through. Sure, Derek is happy and back to being Derek and now Post-It married to Meredith. But why bother tying those two storylines together if Izzie was just going to die anyway?
I don’t believe both will die. I think that the OMG-factor is great for a season finale, but there has to be a balance of joy and tragedy to keep the rest of the characters from unraveling. The story has to go on beyond the doom and gloom, and I think losing one but saving the other will make for far more compelling drama than watching the entirety of Seattle Grace attend two funerals.
But that’s just my two cents on the subject. While I lean toward Izzie’s survival, that’s hardly the only option. Both can live, both can die. George can live on through a different actor if T.R. Knight is out the door – though I personally hate that idea.

please, let Izzie and George stay on the show I love Greys Anatomy the way it is. It is my favorite show and i love all the characters on it they are who makes it great.

In the interview with Shonda, she mentioned that TR’s character was set up from the beginning of the season to be minmal so we would not n otice anything different. Shonda also noted that TR never mentioned leaving the show it was all tabloid news. If she used that to play on fans to get better ratings… then she is the smarter for that.
The character of George is well set for many storylines. Plastic surgery, saving the arm, being beside Izzie as she continues treatment… and of course – a love story for George.
The idea of a new George is creative, I would think that the writers already know how much the fans enjoy seeing TR as George.

I would love it if they would both survive. That would be my ideal way to start off the next season, but logically I see Izzie surviving and George dying. At the very end, when the elevator doors open up, Izzie is still in them and George is already outside. Now there is always the possiblity that he can step inside the elevator and they both live, but something tells me that is unlikely. That’s my guess.
I hope George lives…. I think if Izzie wanted to leave, she should go– just leave George! I mean, the recovery, his “soulmate”– all that is pretty good stuff! I like unstable’s idea too– keep them both alive! Didn’t I read somewhere, though, that Shonda said something about “no miracles, but some good medicine”?

Lili, if you’ll notice, after my post and Jo’s post, Ingrid left a comment saying that she fixed the problem. We’re not ‘kinda stupid,’ or really any kind of ’stupid,’ but thanks for the pointless insult all the same.
Man I want both of them to live. I’ve been watching them since day one and I hate to see them go. George will live to meet his soul mate the right way and get married and Izzy will live to have babies with alex. I can’t wait for the next sesson to start.
I think both of them should live…but if some one had to die I would perfer it be George. If you think about it, do you really want the old Alex back if Izzie dies?

I tweeted with Shonda a few days ago about TR being replaced by another actor and she said “that is a hilarious ridiculous rumor”. If TR goes, so does George. Simple as that.

Mets” in her liver is a death sentence in real life, but then, this is television, right?
One more thing: The biggest boo boo EVER was letting “Denny” pass away. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kathryn Hiegel’s on screen chemistry was amazing…seriously. Those two together are as believable as Bogey & Bacall, Streisand & O’Neal, Chase & Hawn and of course, Roberts & Gere. Ron Howard should seriously cast the two of them in a GREAT romance…a total tear jerker like “Brian’s Song”, but the greatest love story EVER produced to date. He just needs a great writer to create it.
I think Lizzy will Live, George will encourage Lizzy to go back and fight for her live. She has so much more going on. The both of them can not die the show will not be the same with out them both. I do not think George is a good ideal.
Come on, people! George has his soul mate waiting for him! He’s been quiet all season! Now he’s a resident, he’s got a girl, he’ll have to recover— Izzie’s got terminal cancer. It’s in her bones, it’s in her liver— she’s a goner! Let her go! I mean, we’ve seen her all season long! It’s GREY’S anatomy, not IZZIE’s! Shonda— SAVE GEORGE! Izzie can go. Besides, who says Alex will get all “old Alex” again?! Maybe he’s a changed man! With Izzie goes all of those hallucinations of Denny and elevators and dead people. SERIOUSLY. Put her to bed and LET GEORGE LIVE!
I can see everyone’s points here…I really like Izzie. She improved greatly after Denny died(I didn’t like that storyline very much). Then, sadly, they brought him back in the hallucinations. After he finally left, though, and she was diagnosed with the cancer she became the amazing actress we all know and love. George, however, I love also. He has been incredibly quiet all season, which I can’t tell if that’s bad news or not.
It’s hard to tell. We’ll all have to just wait and see, I guess.
I have a different theory. I think Izzie is gone and George will live. Her heart stopped earlier than George’s so he cannot wait for her in heaven or he cannot be dead yet. Izzie really died when she entered the elevator which is taking her to heaven, maybe even to Denny. But on her way there the elevator stopped for George. Since he did not get into the elevator he will survive. Izzie has a sad and confused face because she cannot believe George is dying too. She will stop him from entering the elevator so he can live. Unfortunately I think T.R. Knight is gone, and they will get a new actor who can play George since his face is damaged (just like Eva’s was). Izzie and George(played by T.R.) are my favorite characters so this is all very sad. GA will not be the same without Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight. I think I may just watch the beginning of the next season just to see what happened and if they are gone I will not continue.
Im going ot have to agree with marta on this one, but only on some points. I just rencently watched the first episode of the 5th season, and at the very end of that episode izzy has a flashback in which she gets into the elevator in her prom dress and then when the doors open denny is standing there waiting for her. then she walks out of the elevator and says to denny “see? didn’t i tell you that you would get to see my dress?” and then the two of them walk together on into the light….that looks like the ER doors, but regardless its the light. Metaphorically speaking , with the elevator and all, after i watched that and compared it to the season finale, i think izzie will be the one to go. Im glad i re-watched the first episode because to me, i thought maybe it was a slight hint of foreshadowing towards the season finale. It would be devestating if Izzie WERE to die, but the hints during the 5th season seem to keep building up. Idk….im going to watch and obersve some more and ill post if i find anything but i thought i would bring that to everyones attention. Izzie and George need to live!! both need to have a better ending…!! even if Izzie’s all full with melanoma…she needs to stay…and have babies with ALEX…!! and George needs to continue…he has just found his soulmate!! please let them both live!!
Hi everyone!
What is happening to all the shows’ finales. It took me a while to face with the finale of Prison Break, now this is happening. Izzie is my favourite character in the show, Meredith, George and Dereck are kinda boring to me, esp.Mer. My favourite beggining of another season would be, Geoge telling Izzie that it’s not her time yet, that she has to go back to help others that have the same condition as she and that she will survive and work on experimental medicines that would eventually cure her. Alas, I don’t think that Shonda & others think the same.

I think it is stupid for the show if they die, but i believe izzie will die, so that she can continue to star in up and coming movies. It all makes sense, she’s already been in two i know of, and one that’s about to release in theaters. I think izzie is just telling the fans a lie…George might live, sense i haven’t heard of him pursuing a movie career.
I hate seeing Goerge and Izzie die!!!!!
Goerge is the tie for all of them and Izzie is the most human one!!!!! There should variety….

I have watched Greys Anatomy every day three times a day. After seeing Izzie recover from her second op and get her memory back and George in the bus crash, (I had recorded them as I did not have time to watch, pending Xmas) I hav e just watched the episode I mentioned above and could not wait for next one and lo and behold, bACK TO NEGINNING. i WAS SO DISTRAUGHT AS i NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. pLEASE TELL ME IT CARRIES ON STRAIGHT FROM THERE ON jan 14th. If not, where and when. This is important. Ilove that programme.Janet F
