I hope everyone’s strapped in, for season finale night is finally here! Grey’s Anatomy concludes its fifth season tonight with its final two episodes, which are airing back-to-back on ABC. Don’t forget to tune in for both! (As if you could forget!)
I’m opening the floor to thoughts, comments and questions about the finale, so feel free to drop your thoughts into the comment section. I’ll keep the main post free of spoilers so everyone has a chance to catch up on the episode without worrying about seeing something they shouldn’t. But the comments section will be laden with spoilers, so watch for those.
Tonight we should hopefully get some answers about what’s happening with Izzie. Or, they might just leave us hanging all summer. I really hope not. Will Katherine Heigl leave? Will she survive through a medical miracle? I don’t know! And T.R. Knight’s George – what will happen to him? We should hopefully have answers to that too.
MerDer should at least get their happily ever after. Well, I’m crossing my fingers for that.

Tha’s unbelievable…it’s not possible..how could they do that?????? I thought that John Doe knew Meredith ’cause was lookina at her in a familiar way..but George..tha’s too sad..and cruel for all the viewers..no way!!!! So now what? Thwy both will die? Only one will survive? they will both survive???? I hope the last one..I can’t wait..
wow..who would’ve thought that it was george…i hope they would not be out of the show..but if they will be,, ill terribly miss both of them…doc o malley and doc stevens…
I got the feeling Izzy lives in the elevator scene, but when you think about the actor’s careers although Grey’s is her big break, Kathrine has a lot more going for her with her big screen roles, she might me ready to leave the show and move on. TR on the other hand I haven’t seen in anything huge, he should stay with the show. Honestly if they both die, I probably won’t watch the show anymore it will be too depressing without their lively, cheery characters!

OH MY GOD, i have a freaking headache after watching the finale, are they freaking kidding me?? the momen meredith screams OH GOD!OH GOD! i figured it out and my heart went into superboost beating out of my chest… i cant even imagine how the 6th season will happen without IZZIE or George CRAZZZY
Actually i believe that it means they both died, coz they went to the after life and saw each other, that’s what it means. Now i dunnow if they’re ganna bring one of them back to life, but i’ve heard rumurs that both actors wanna leave the show : ((( I hope its not tru though

What about TR Knight not coming back- but his character is replaced by another actor.. posing as our likable, cute George.
Izzy lives, but not the way she wanted to. (Too much emphasis was put on the DNR to not make something of it) She’s a “turnip” and doesn’t necessarily have to have a major (physical) role- leaving more time for movies on the side.
The Chief gets in trouble for not obeying the DNR and decides to retire..finally. He offers Bailey the job.. and she takes it. Thus.. leaving her marriage up in the air..

wooow!!, im n shock!! Izzie!!!, why Izzie??? And When the elevator door opens and Izzie and George see each other for the first time, they’re both smiling ..it was way too sad.

I just don’t think the show will be good without them. All the other characters bore me to tears!
I think Izzie is gone and George will live. Her heart stopped earlier than George’s so he cannot wait for her in heaven or he cannot be dead yet. Izzie really died when she entered the elevator which is taking her to heaven, maybe even to Denny. But on her way there the elevator stopped for George. Since he did not get into the elevator he will survive. Izzie has a sad and confused face because she cannot believe George is dying too. She will stop him from entering the elevator so he can live. Unfortunately I think T.R. Knight is gone, and they will get a new actor who can play George since his face is damaged (just like Eva’s was). Izzie and George(played by T.R.) are my favorite characters so this is all very sad. GA will not be the same without Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight. I think I may just watch the beginning of the next season just to see what happened and if they are gone I will not continue.
I think that george is dead but izzie lives. She was on the elevator to the other side and never stepped off.
i think that it was a bad finale izzie and george both are the best characters in the history of greys anatomy and they can’t die if that happens i think the history will come down cuz no one of the other characters can be so strong as they are, i hope that this finale was just for had a good rating, and if it’s not i think it will be the complete finale of this show
i dont think they would kill them both off.the show is about five interns who become residents and their lives.if they kill them both the show will go no where and people will stop watching.i think its going to be george that goes,but he doesnt die.everyone will save both of them and salone will fix o’maleys face and he’ll go off to iraq like he wanted.izzie will stay and be with alex,or thats how it should be anyways.
They can’t just kill off George and Izzy without showing their deaths or their bodies or other characters’ memories of them because that would just be clumsy writing – which doesn’t happen on Grey’s. So the actors must be featured at some point next season and will probably therefore sign contracts, even if it means they are only in a few scenes next season. I really think it could go either way and the only way we will find out for sure what happens is by waiting for season 6. The emphasis on the show has always been on realistic portrayals of hospital life and medical conditions, if Izzy has been told that she only has a 5% chance of survival I think it would seem really contrived and out of keeping with the rest of the show if she were to miraculously come back from this so it is my opinion that she will probably die. With George I’m not so sure – his recovery would be far more credible due to the nature of his injuries and, as many people have mentioned, because he has been disfigured there would always be the option of having another actor play his character if T R were to leave.
i both like izzie and o’malley…just hope it won’t end that way or i hope they’re still part of season 6–alive.
I think they will both live because us, the viewers, love them. Notice that the season finale episode really was a cliffhanger, maybe they intentionally did that to know our reaction about the path of the story they’re going to make. If they won’t keep both of them, I think they will keep one of them, at least. Because both those characters make a huge impact on the ratings of the show that’s why they couldn’t afford a big number of their viewers to be lost. I want Izzie to live instead of Georege, though. Hail Grey’s Anatomy! Best show ever!
I actually believe that George died, and Izzy is dead as well if she gets out of the elevator. She stays alive if she rides the elevator back ‘up’. Basically, Izzy gets to chose whether she lives or moves on. I personlly hope she decides to stay, because I really like her character and would hate it if she were to be written off the show. I am really sad that George is leaving, but he left with a bang and a good storyline. Overall, I am pretty satisfied with the finale.
I also think that George smiling at Izzy is like saying the last goodbye, and to encourage her to go back and be with Alex. TMida had a good idea about the Chief and Bailey, but I guess we’ll just have to see what happens.
Oh my gosh! I just watched the first episode of season 5 on Hulu (Hulu is a great thing – I highly suggest it) and I saw that the elevator scene in the finale with Izzie and George is actually in the FIRST episode of the season with DENNY (not George). Izzie sees Alex making out with some other chick and flashes to the elevator (same dress & hair) and steps out, talks to Denny for a sec and they link arms and walk out of the hospital.
Okay, everyone is saying how much they would miss either George and/or Izzy if they were to go. I however think George was not doing much in the end of the fifth season. George’s character wanted to leave and therefore the Grey’s Anatomy writers had him join the army. I believe strongly that George died. They might have him do some sort of memory appearance for him, but TR is no longer on the Grey’s Anatomy cast. Ass for Izzy, I thought she died at first because, well because she was riding up to heaven and stopped for George. Katherine Heigl in the middle of the season asked to leave because they weren’t giving her enough good writing, so they gave her cancer. But then she decided she wanted to stay, so it was left up in the air whether she died or not. After thinking about this for a while I just didn’t see how they could kill of two characters. Just yesterday I was looking around on the internet and saw that Katherine Heigl would be returning to Grey’s Anatomy. I have no idea how the writers will do this since she basically died in Alex’s arms, but maybe it will be like in season 3 when Meredith drowned. Maybe Izzy with somehow come back to life. I honestly can’t wait to see what they do! But, I’m positive when I say george will not be there but Izzy will.

I am watching in the UK and have just seen the season 6 finale. I was truly shocked when John Doe was George. Surely they won’t kill off Izzie and George??! I don’t think the next season will be screened here until January 2010, I have no idea how I will wait that long to find out what happens. I have been gripped since season one, I think that Izzie will die and George will live. I’m glad Meridith and Derek had a marriage of sorts, even if they never quite made it down the eisle. If anyone knows how to watch ABC in the UK, let me know!
i heard that neither izzie or george are leaving… GA wont be the same without them.. katherine heigl is a brilliant actress and shes made the series famous! if they take her out it wont work… and they cant take izzie out.. shes the one that made alex a better person and hes whole with her… hes already had a rough relationship with ava , i dont think they can do that again… im just crossing my fingers.. hope both of them live
i agree with the fact that izzie will come back to life just like meredith did… she was a very positive person and im sure theyll bring her back cos shes also like a inspiration to people with cancer…she will teach people how to fight..

i think its interesting one comment i read above about another actor taking george character and it would be interesting, i saw a soap opera where they did something like that…
but the most amazing moment for me was when meredith was with “john doe” and he starts to write 007 on her palm, i literally went like “holly shit!! its george” like 2 seconds before she said it!

george dies. there is no way to bring him back and even if he lived he will never look the same.
they both die izzy (katherine heigl) leaves so she can get bigger roles in movies and george (T.R Knight) leaves because of some fight with one of the crew or something like that

I didn’t really think that Merder postit wedding whatever was very romantic, but totally love that Crisitna and Owen are together!!! In my opinion Sandra Oh and Kevin McKidd are two of the greatest ever actors to be on Greys.

The season finale was awesome!!! how george was the one that got ran over by the bus and knowone knew until it was til late and izzy getting her memory back but then dying. Best season finale EVER!!!

George is definitely not coming back. His death will be confirmed in the first episode of the 7th season when it is revealed that he is an organ donor. However, Izzy is going to survive. The circumstances aren’t confirmed yet but her character will be back in the middle of the 7th season. In addition, Ellen Pompeo won’t be part of the 7th season due to her pregnancy. I am wondering if the next season can hold up to its high expectations…
George dies, &Izzy lives. Theres a funeral in one of the first episodes of season 6. It’s really sad, but hey, the show must go on!
I can’t decide, though I’m pretty sure that one will survive and one will die. Otherwise they’re pretty much murdering the series with one foul swoop. Initially, I thought George was the goner – in his Army attire, which we’ve never seen him in (suggesting that that was his ultimate “dream” at the time and something he was rewarded with in the afterlife…) – standing out of the lift and awaiting Izzie’s arrival. Her face, I thought, was sad/shocked because she was shocked and had no idea that George had been fatally injured and the fact that she never stepped out of the elevator suggested to me that she still had to make a choice (to live or to die).
However I can definitely see it from others’ points of view as well. The idea that George is *awaiting* the elevator to get in with Izzie, and the idea that her face is construed the way it is because she, again, can’t believe he’s been fatally injured.
Still, the idea that George is smiling at her, suggests that has some sort of foresight, which would have been impossible in his earth-bound circumstances (he would have had no idea Izzie was in cardiac arrest as he was fighting for his own life) which makes me think that he is the one that has already passed on, and is awaiting Izzie to either welcome her, or turn her back.
I hope it’s the latter.
