Last night ABC aired the first (or second, depending on how you look at it) couple of episodes of its long-awaited and highly-publicized Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice crossover event.
I’m not sure if I enjoyed the episodes as much as I was hoping to. And I don’t know if that’s because there was so much hype that my expectations were entirely too high. I was really happy to see Addison at Seattle Grace again, but – and I can’t quite explain why – I felt the episodes felt a little “off.”
I did, however, enjoy getting a little background on Owen Hunt with the introduction of his ex-fiancee. I like how the whole Cristina/Owen relationship continues on slowly but surely, despite the many bumps along the way.
Owen’s story fit really nicely with the theme (before and after) and tied smoothly with the overall Derek and his past idea. Meredith watching Derek interact with his old friends was nice, as was Cristina’s point that they don’t know the men they’re with.
I’m still trying to decide how I feel about the whole song that Derek wrote for Addison thing. I felt it was kind of random, and a little awkward and inappropriate considering they’ve been divorced for ages. Not to mention that Mark slept with Addison, and now Derek is dating someone new. I can understand it being something that bonded them and brought back the happier times from the past, but I still thought it was a little random, given everything that’s happened.
Sadie’s send-off was also a little random. Suddenly she doesn’t know anything? She’s been around for months and suddenly she doesn’t know anything? Wasn’t she the one that spotted the issues during Jackson’s first transplant surgery? I mean, she has to know something to see something no one else saw. Suddenly she cheated her way into the program? There wasn’t anything better to send her home for, really? Ah well.
The whole intern game was fun, though I’m actually amazed those interns know anything at all, given that few of them ever get taught anything.
And wow, George had a lot more lines than usual! The first time he spoke I honestly thought the entirety of his dialogue would be, “Woo! Woo! Woo!” Thankfully not.
I think it’s kind of funny that Izzie’s been confessing to seeing dead people, but Alex starts to look concerned when Izzie starts doing arts and crafts for the interns.
I did think what Alex said to Addison – about wanting to run because he felt a train coming (regarding Izzie) – was pretty insightful and good foreshadowing.
I’m still enjoying Jen & Rob though I feel really bad for them. If it’s not one thing it’s another!
I think, overall, I enjoyed the two-hour event, and given that they were trying to balance a whole bunch of characters and storylines both in Seattle Grace and back at Oceanside, they did a pretty good job of it.
What did you think? Did you love it or were you disappointed? Or was it simply just kind of “okay?”

I agree, the show left me a little cold after all the hype… Also, I agree with the send off of Sadie being odd, however she has always been all about on her feet (getting operated on, cutting herself) teaching as it were, and didn’t she used to work on dead people??? She would know what dead tissue looks like…As for the Song it was a good opening to pull them all together but was used way to much and to long!!!!!!!
I for one think George has more to say since they might send he and Izzie off together since he did see something wrong with Izzie prior to Alex… If thats not the case he should not talk o r have lines, I’m NOT a george fan!!!
I’m a little worried that all the George and Izzie leaving talk might also mean Alex is leaving, or that really its Izzie and Alex leaving, one to die and the other leaving.. Alex talking to Addison about leaving and starting over etc… I might like Addison and Alex together since Alex does have a “nack” for the nio stuff that Addison does but don’t think he would fit in the other show (which might be a good thing)…..
I’m all over the place with this ep but it left me cold.. LETS HOPE its all just the ground work for a GREAT next EP!!!!!!!!!!!!
I disliked feeling like I had to watch private practise after grey’s anatomy to be sure not to miss anything in grey’s anatomy. I don’t watch PP because I don’t like the show…I felt like I was forced to watch it. If i had watched both shows I would have enjoyed it im sure…but since I dont it was somewhat annoying. Just bring Addison back at Seattle Grace, I don’t care about the rest of the gang.
I thought it was a pretty good episode. Mixing some humor with a lot of drama. Derek is completely losing it though!
really irritated at ABC – “oh, its a 2 hour grey’s/private practice episode.” it wasn’t. and the crossover is taking over of what’s going on w/all the seattle grace characters. if i wanted to watch private practice, i would. but this cheap ploy is annoying. is it just me?
I was really irritated by Private Practice’s handling of talking about Postpartum Depression.
I Also Has Pretty High Expectations for the episode and was disappointed with the crossover…i dont really know what i was expecting but expected something more..I Love Addison..Cant She Like comeback to seattle grace?
I think the let-down for me was them not revisiting the MerDer proposal after he was abruptly distracted by Addison’s original call. It seems we’ve been getting a lot more of individual characters instead of couples. That’s important for sure, but a little harder to take in 2 hour crossover events than just in a single epsiode here and there. To be clear, though… I really love the way the writers progress storylines in the show. In my opinion the writers get a lot of credit for getting this show right.
Bringing Kate Walsh back to Seattle Grace is one of the best things that can ever happen to Grey’s (other than a walk to the altar of course), in its state now.
But something tells me if it causes Meredith and Derek to fall apart with it, it’s gonna suck. Big time.
Addy just takes over, like no more breathing space for other characters’ developments, that kind of domination.
Nevertheless: Quote” Can we all just stop watching Practice so it fails and Addy can hightail it back north? Thanks.”
p.s. owen and christina, alex and izzy (especially alex’s insightful moment of relevation), plus seeing derek not holding it together once in a while, kudos.
