Group urging CW stations not to air Gossip Girl episode

Gossip Girl’s upcoming Monday, Nov. 9 episode “They Shoot Humphreys, Don’t They” on The CW is making one group a little nervous.

The Parents Television Council has asked CW affiliates not to air Gossip Girl’s next episode due to a preview clip teased as “3Some.” This, of course, relates to a storyline where there is supposed to be a three-some between three unnamed characters in next week’s episode.

In a letter to CW affiliates, The PCT president Tim Winter wrote in a statement:

“To include a storyline like this on a program that is expressly targeted to impressionable teenagers is reckless and irresponsible. We are asking each CW Network affiliate to use their common sense and preempt this episode,” said PTC President Tim Winter, who wrote a letter to CW Network President Dawn Ostroff and to each affiliate.

“Will you now be complicit in establishing a precedent and expectation that teenagers should engage in behaviors heretofore associated primarily with adult films?”

While it is true Gossip Girl is targeted at teens and young adults, Gossip Girl’s characters (with the exception of Jenny and Eric) are now (this season) in college. And I’m pretty sure the “three-some” is going to be between adult characters.

The PTC included a warning that they will monitor the episode and members will not hesitate to contact local and national advertisers. The PCT also will contact the Federal Communication Commission if the program violates broadcast decency law.

This isn’t the first time the PCT has spoke out about Gossip Girl’s racy ads. In July 2008, the organization spoke out about Gossip Girl’s “Mind-Blowingly Inappropriate” ads.

The target audience for Gossip Girl is 18- to 34-year-old women, according to The CW.

Gossip Girl airs on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
