Please note that 'Steve Vander Ark' is not filing anything at all. I am not the plaintiff in this suit and have no control over what they do.

"Personally, I think there’s plenty of room for Vander Ark’s book AND JK Rowling’s proposed HP reference. I think both books could serve a purpose; after all, the Harry Potter universe is vast and complicated. Plus, it just makes JK look kind of petty, in my humble opinion. What do you think?"

NOT IN THE SLIGHTEST!!!!

JK created the HP Universe and SHE OWNS IT, that's how copyrights and patents work. If you can ADD something new or IMPROVE upon it that is a different story. He hasn't done that.

He needs to CREATE something original, not borrow or copy bits and reformat it. It has nothing to do with there being "plenty of room for his book and her proposed reference guide".

If he is looking for someone to sue he might want to consider what ever IDIOT advised him that he would be able to bring this book to market. Did he even think to ask JK if he could do this?

You just can't sell something you don't own! Would you be interested in buying a bridge I am in the market to sell? I can let you have it at a great price!

It is far too easy for you to say you think she looks petty (because she has earned so much money already from the HP stories that she should be willing to share some?). She owns the COPYRIGHTS and was fortunate to have created something very popular. Granted she says she used his website as a source to help her when writing because it was easier than looking up bits in the books. BUT his website was not charging money so there was no problem with creating a website as a hobby.

If this guy can come up with SOME ORIGINAL thoughts, insights or ideas I'm sure he will not be fought by JK over it.
Her premise is simple from what I have read, he is simply using her information and putting it a different format.

Why do you think he should be able to make money selling something that isn't his and he doesn't have permission to resell? By using your logic anyone should be able to download songs and then "resell" them as their own creation because of the order they are in.

Not all artists are successful and it is far too easy for someone to try to "steal" from them.
That is all he has done. He has stolen her ideas and reordered them and he wants to be paid as if he actually did something himself.

You can't fault an artist for creating something that makes money and then protecting their LEGAL rights of ownership.

Mr Vander Ark is not trying to "ride her coat-tails" and share success but is rather trying to cut off pieces of the coat-tails and trying to sell it as an original fabric that he created.

WOW. what a long winded response! I guess my hackles were up a bit!
