UPDATE: Thanks to some very passionate readers who wrote that Madeira is in Portugal and not Spain as I mentioned here. My apologies to the Portuguese and Spanish readers for mixing it up.
Remember that Hayden Panettiere asked for petitions to stop commercial whaling via SocialVibe? Hayden was hoping to get one million signatures so she can present the petition at the International Whaling Commission (IWC) in June.
Well, the 6st Annual Commission Meeting starts today in Madeira, Portugal. From her MySpace, Hayden only collected 163,525 signatures for the Whaleman Foundation. But that didn’t stop her from voicing her opinion out.
Speaking for the “Save The Whales” Campaign, Hayden Panettiere called on the IWC to stop commercial and scientific research whaling by Japan, Norway and Iceland. Here’s a written statement from Hayden Panettiere:
“Having witnessed the brutal slaughter of pilot whales firsthand in Taiji Japan, I cannot understand how anyone in Japan, Norway, Iceland or the Faroe Islands could kill these harmless creatures knowing what they know, that these animals are loaded with mercury PCBs, and DDT and then sell their tainted meat for profit or feed it to their children.”
Aren’t you just impressed by Hayden? Way to go, girl!
I’m not sure that Hayden is actually in Madeira, Portugal. There was nothing in the news that she left the country this weekend, but knowing Hayden she might just be there. We just have to hang on a little to see if there are photos later this week.

I am aware that the IWC is meeting in Madeira Island (Portugal). I’ve never
heard of Madeira, Spain. Maybe you should check your facts about this claim.

I love Hayden! but she hasn’t done anything in the past 6mths for the cause. Actually its like she doesn’t care any more. Besides rehashing her 2007! trip to Japan, she never talks about the social vibe signature thing in interviews and pretty much says the same thing.
She bought a new Lexus GS, the Lexus factory is located down the road from “the cove” where she witnessed those poor dolphins being slaughtered. She has been seen wearing those “don’t support Japanese products” shirts and yet she went out and bought a Japanese car…
