Tom Cruise was nominated for “Best Supporting Actor” for his role in “Tropic Thunder”. He was up against some stiff competition! Also nominated in the same category was Robert Downey Jr. (Tropic Thunder), Ralph Fiennes (The Duchess), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Doubt) and Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight).
I was rooting for Tom Cruise of course, but I am thrilled beyond words that Heath Ledger won for his role as The Joker in “The Dark Knight”. I feel that he deserved it.
After Heath’s name was announced, he received a standing ovation. Watch the clip below.

That was predictable. I did not see the Dark Knight, but thought Heath’s role was a leading role, I was disappointed to see Tom was up against him, knowing the likely outcome.
If Tom ever wants it, I have the role that would win him an oscar.;) He just has to call me.. ha ha
But hats off to Heath, a bittersweet end to a wonderful career.

The Dark Knight was actually the only movie in that category I’d seen and it was a LONG movie, but Heath did a brilliant job! I’ve seen several of his movies & he dug so deep for this one that had I not been aware it was him, I probably wouldnt know. (which I honestly think is the mark of a true actor, when you can look past the celebrity & still get imersed in the character, forget completely who they are “on the outside”).
Heath’s performance BLEW TC’s away. No way could TC EVER perform like Heath did in The Dark Knight. Heath deserved the award and thank God he won.
Well said, *Katie*! Heath richly deserved the award and I hope he’s nominated at the Oscars as well. I’m sure he will be. I’m not a fan of comic book type films, but I did she The Dark Knight and Heath made the movie. He brought an entirely different dimension to the character.
I almost hope Tom doesnt get nominated for an Oscar, I cant handle him not winning again. But I respect all you are saying, makes perfect sense. And what a nice honor for Heath’s memory.
Kelly, don’t worry, he won’t. He only got nominated for the GG because he has connections to Dan Snyder who owns a piece of the Globes production, as well as a piece of Cruise’s studio. He had a stake in bringing Cruise to the forefront at the Globes.
Tom looked amused by the whole nomination thing, he knew he wasn’t going to win for that role, although I loved his dancing.
Annie, he should have been embarassed. Did you see his “performance?”
